Epoxy coated.
Marine.
Battery Cable Terminals.

The negative battery terminal/post turns into a corrosion encrusted Christmas tree over time. Duralast makes epoxy coated marine battery cable terminals for just such an occasion. Now........I just installed it, so I have absolutely no idea if it will actually do anything about corrosion. But it's only $13, is the easiest things to install ever, and looks cool.

Why? Battery I replaced last October guano'd the bed. Starting had become intermittent and hard the last few months. Jumped the car and drove to Vato Zone, figuring the battery was bad. Turns out that it was the negative battery cable terminal not making proper contact with the post, so the battery wasn't getting charged properly. And my voltage reading was a constant 14 volts, no variation at all.

So for $13, and 30 minutes of sweating in this awful heat and humidity, I got a new battery and a Duralast Epoxy Coated Marine Terminal installed. And suddenly I could see the alternator varying it's output from the volt gauge.

Enjoy. It's cheap and something to do.

I've been using the anti-corrosion felt washer on the battery posts on several cars for quite some time and it prevents the corrosion quite well. And they are super cheap $2.

I've been using the anti-corrosion felt washer on the battery posts on several cars for quite some time and it prevents the corrosion quite well. And they are super cheap $2.

Something I learned today.

The bottom of the cable terminal is meant to touch the bottom of the battery post where it's molded into the plastic of the battery body.

On the face of it, those felt pads would stop that part of the electrical connection.......but......hell, if it works for you.

Agreed, however those surfaces are not in compression. If the battery cable clamped down then yes, but it's clamped around the post. There is no guarantee that the mating surfaces are held tightly enough to matter. Once corrosion starts under the clamp then all bets are off.

Dielectric grease works too. Just put a thin coat on the post/terminal AFTER its tightened down.

Got my 2019 for Christmas 2024, car spent most of its previous life in Florida. I was surprised my first service found a corroded negative cable (even more so because the PPI didn't find it!) but now I'm not surprised anymore....

I got tired of dealing with the acid mess in mine, both the original and the replacement batteries developed internal shorts which made them overheat and spill acid. I caught it in time, but that could have wreaked havoc. So I switched to a LiFePO4 battery last year. So far, so good. Lost about 15 pounds off the nose too.

CRC and NOCO both make battery terminal protection sprays that will prevent corrosion. I've used one or the other for years and not had any corrosion to speak of.
Clean the post and connector nice and shiny, clamp it tight, spray a couple of coats over all exposed metal and you're good to go.
No need to add extra/altered cable to the situation.
