Looking forward to seeing how it will compare to A052. May be a TT contender with 200TW limit

It's been talked about for a while. Unfortunately, for no one knows what reason it seems to have too low of a tread depth to be legal for SCCA Autox/TT.

Price for the sized that we would be interested in is about the same as for Yoks.

I heard them mention a new tire during the NASA Championship but didnt know it would be announced this soon. I didnt think about the tread depth requirement. I was definitely thinking about SCCA TT but I guess its a negative.

Exactly. Thats why im curious to see how it does.

1/2 second off of an R7 is a pretty impressive result for a 200tw tire without it being a first lap out hero lap like the A052's require.

Damn. Just played with the NASA TT/ST calculator and going from R7 to TAP gives an extra ~48HP to play with or ability to drop up to 300lbs.

*assuming that the mod factor is the same as the A052*

I wonder how these would rate against Toyo R888R tires? As far as time needed to heat up and dry traction.

Time to start typing your letters to SCCA management to drop that rule from 7/32 to 5/32
The speculation is SCCA is already planning to go to 5/32. I personally think it's wishful thinking, but time will tell. Seems really odd to introduce a tire that can only be used in TT, but perfect for AutoX.

Odd comparison to make as the R888R hasn't been relevant in years.
That being said, I think it's safe to assume this new Hoosier will blow the R888R out of the water in every aspect.

R888R is only really good as a quasi drag radial with a stiff enough sidewall to still handle decently well. Otherwise it's outperformed by just about every 200tw tire on the market despite it claiming to be a 100tw tire.

I know where Doug was going with that and I was interested to see what response he got ...

What would be your recommendation for the best track tyre, for (dry) use on the street, that's available in 20", in typical mustang widths and profiles ?

Cheers,

Is the main use a street tire or a track tire that is street legal?

Track tire = 3R, A052, RE71RS, this new Hoosier, RT660, etc.
Street tire = PS4S. Not competitive on track but it'll get the job done. ECS, V730 (much better on track than PS4S but not to the same pace as the above tires)
