Has anyone tried a tinted film on their clear visor? I have no use for the visor in the down position, and a DIY film seems like an affordable way to get a tinted one.
I got a tinted visor for the Pyrotect helmet I recently bought for cheap (it was SA2020 but previous Bell was super gross after 5 years so that's about a life cycle of a helmet for me). I think it can be useful, however wearing polarized Oakleys cut glare out really well and you can't replace that with tinted visor.

I am sure Bell will sell you one if you want to try to you don't have DIY it.

Most of the helmet companies make tinted visors (in various shades). I just use my clear visor, my sunglasses are polarized so that works well for me. But my track time is very limited, I never even made it out this year, and I’m very much novice level. For whatever that’s worth as well.

I also have a oval head and I found the Bell, Vamp nor RaceQuip brands fit me well. My Simpson Voyager helmet expired ( which I absolutely LOVE). The Voyager replacement looks to be the Viper. I tried one on at Pegasus. I have a small head, hat size 6 7/8 to 7 hat size. The small was a bit tight but the Medium was not snug enough. I ended up buying the Small.
Like @1 old racer, I too wear the new helmet around the house and shop preseason. After wearing my new helmet and then putting on my old helmet, I was surprised how loose my old helmet felt.

The other feature I liked about the Simpson Viper is its has removable ear "pockets" where you can remove a foam piece in proximity to the ear so you can easily use a earbud for instruction, A real person or Catalyst.

I use to keep my visor up from time to time. Til this happened about 15 years ago when a muffler strap came off a car that i was going around. The metal strap came thru my opened driver side windows. It gave me ten stitches and a week long headache . Now I always drive with the visor down.

I agree with the closed visor while on the track. I lower mine while on the false grid. One time while passing a car offline on the right, a very large chunk of klag flew into my open driver window, bounced off my visor. Once back in the paddock, I took a photo of my visor and that would have hurt big time if it was not for visor down. Back a couple years ago in my instruction phase, my coach said “ always keep the visor down while on the track, if you get in a bad situation, it will keep the flames away from your eyes and possibly smoke also”.

Update.
I ordered the medium size and it was just a bit loose. I shipped it back to exchange for small which fits just right. No movement while vigorous nodding and shaking motions.

EDIT: And so the Bell sizing chart was correct.

THAT is unbelievable! What a blessing it was just stiches. I'm certain it didn't seem like a blessing at the time! I will for sure reinstall my visor and keep it down on track!

It felt like someone hit me with their fist. Face wounds bleed a lot. So right after the hit I started pulling off the track then I felt my chest get wet and touched the front of my suit and lifted my hand in front of my face and it was all red. The safety truck pulled up and as soon as they say me they call the medical staff, they would not let me touch my helmet and hauled me off to the local trauma center, it scared me more then anything. After a x-ray the opened the visor and removed the helmet. The Dr. said I won the lucky award for the week. All this not say, that it happend within moment. So please don't risk it buy a full face and keep the visor down.

When I was racing Legends cars, I had a clear visor and a blue mirrored one.

Shoving sunglasses into an already slightly-snug helmet made for discomfort, and it was quick to swap visors when needed. They cost a little money, but they are worth it.

Legends cars have open front windscreens(well mine did), so a visor was always mandatory unless you wanted a ton of crap in your face.
