I did the steeda shifter bracket, bg fluid and steel braided line first but still had lock out. Did the clutch for unrelated issues but after it was installed the lockout was gone.
This is why I wonder if it's a misaligned or improperly installed clutch from the factory on some cars. It's not the first post I've seen like this where someone does everything but the clutch, still has lockout, does the clutch, lockout gone.

I legit believe there's multiple issues related to assembly and quality of surrounding components.

We know that the stock clutch line can have issues with extreme heat, and that under extreme circumstances the stock shifter does not remain perfectly in place as it's not mounted to the transmission.

I had no lockout issues until year 3.

First I tried this steeda brace that installed with the stock shifter.

Then I tried BG syncroshift II.

Finally I have switched to a MGW shifter. I really love the MGW shifter.

It's much improved now but still not perfect. I believe part of it is I am still wearing in the new MGW I had installed about 3 months ago. Reverse and 2nd have felt extra notchy since the MGW, but getting better all the time. Reminds me of when the car was new. I've probably only got about 1000 miles or so on the new shifter.

I wouldn't say all the time. Hopefully a new clutch will fix it.
I'm not here to spend your money, but a clutch would be last on the list for a new car.

Check this thread:

Check Your Clutch Line

Try changing the fluid, we are here to plug our product: BG Syncro Shift II Kit

Then I would look at an MGW shifter.

In order of FREE, Fairly Cheap, Much better than the OEM one.

An MGW shifter took care of my 2-3 lockout.

Not really sure why so many people think different fluid is going to 'fix' anything. Make it less notchy, that's about it.
The reason it is notchy is due to the condition of the friction modifiers in the oil and their ability to speed match the synchronizer efficiently. A fluid change can help this, which also translates into lock-out.

Honestly, if the fluid hasn’t been changed I’d do that first like OPR says. It was a night and day difference on my 2016.

If the fluid is anything other than a clear/light yellow, change it.

When I did the fluid swap it was for the notchy when cold feeling and helped some. Didn't even think of it until you posted this but I haven't had any notchy feeling since the clutch swap.

Sorry, I'm like a broken record. Had a 2015 GT, no lockout at all, ever (put 60k miles on the car I think, maybe more).

Got a 2020 GT, reliable 2-3 lockout, like real reliable, like clockwork.

I've done it all:
RST clutch
Braided steel line
Fluid
MGW
Trans mount insert

...Still get lockout, it's better, but it happens (mostly 3rd).

It sucks, pray for me lol. It makes me not like the car. If I ever buy another Coyote car, the most important part of the test drive will be trying to get it to lockout...

I experienced the same "break-in" issue with my MGW shifter. At first I was thinking I made a mistake with it, but the more I drive it, the better it gets.

A good clutch goes a long way with the MT82 and a clutch line. Feel free to shoot me over a message and I can help get you sorted with that if youd like.

Listen up guys. A fluid change or a new shifter will NOT help or fix a lockout in third gear. If you have really slammed or speed shifted your ride and it did not go smoothly into third gear, you most likely have BENT your third gear SHIFT LEVER. The only way to correct this issue is to REPLACE the shift lever. Ask me how I know? I beat the snot out of my 2018 GT and hung it up in third gear. It never shifted properly again until I replaced the shift forks period.

Were you lucky enough to find billet shift forks for the replacements?

I was lucky enough to find a set of 1-2 & 3-4 billet aluminum shift forks from Amp Distributing when I built my tranny a couple of years ago. Since then, they have shown to be out of stock on that particular set of forks. See link for reference.

I just checked their site recently and see that they now offer billet 3-4 forks, but no 1-2. They look different than mine, in that they appear to have an anodized coating on them. My suggestion to anyone, who may go down this road in the near future is to buy what’s available and hang onto them until it’s time to build.

The work that went into my transmission has been a HUGE improvement over the factory internals. It has held up very well thus far to several launches and shifts down the 1/4 mile.

Here are pics of my factory cast forks and billet aluminum forks.

I suppose the factory cast forks could be strengthened with some tig welding in certain areas, but if you can find billet ones, that’s the move right there.

That was supposed to be specific to 2018 models and corrected shortly after. Weak forks are a known problem with the 2018 MT-82!
