With all this talk of debris and bypassing, does anyone know the incidence of filters being clogged to the extent that the bypass valve does the job it's intended to? Would it be fair to say that bar a manufacturing defect causing a collapse of the filter element ie blockage there's no good reason to run a filter with a bp valve on a well maintained car?

If true, what's a good non-bypass filter to run on the Coyote? (Not, rpt not trying to turn this into a filter vs filter discussion).

That guy is legit too, so it wasn't his error. He is sending them back to get spec'd out. I have a set that I am reluctant to use.

This is a message for all you guys who upgraded and i use the word lightly to billet opg's. On my 3k mile oil change after upgrading my OPG's i cut my filter open and found flakes of metal. I immediately tore down the front of my engine and discovered that the metal had come from my oil pump. After pondering for a few days i determined that rockwell C50 to C55 was the desired hardness. I took my OPG's to our machinist and had my gears tested , they are C26 which is a huge difference from C50. This is just a suggestion that you do due diligence and cut your filter open from time to time, its free and engines are not.

Improper tempering when made, most likely a Low Quality Chinese Made Product. Sorry to hear about your problem. Good catch. I do an Oil Analysis on all of my Cars.

Yeah ken is not at fault here. but after my go around i suggest fully checking your clearances and pay close attention when centering the pump on the engine.

AMEN....
The fact of the matter is, with all the OPG's he's said he's changed in the past, he's basically gotten lucky he never had this problem before since his only "check" as he admitted in the video was "the gears spun OK after I put them in the pump"... That's a high tech inspection right there...
You know, if that was somebody else's engine, they'd be stuck footing a pretty big bill if the car made it out of his shop with out of spec OPGs, to later/likely cause some pretty serious damage somewhere else internally...

So, the question is for me now, what OPG's should we use when building a Coyote?
This video and your thread here doesn't give me a warm and fuzzy feeling about supposedly "Good" aftermarket OPGs.
With only @ 7300 miles on my motor right now, maybe if the stock gears are still within spec, they should stay in the pump when the Whipple goes on top?

We are buying a precisions machined part here we should not have to re engineer it when we buy it then argue with the vendor. tss all their stuff checked out perfect and you always get what you pay for. why cheap on opg;s .

I agree, but for me, I'd still run the feeler gauge check on the gears during pump reassembly and before mounting it back on the crank.
When I have assembled engines from the block up before, I use a calipers to check dimensions when I get the parts and I also plastigauge all the mains/con-rod bearings just to be sure as well. It's a PITA, but for me, it's worth the extra time.

I hear ya on not going 'cheap" with something as important as OPGs.
After seeing the video above, I was just trying to get a sense of what y'all thought were the ones to go with.
TSS: Check
The Ford Racing/GT350 ones: Check (right?)

I would not hesitate to buy the ford gears ,though they are a bit pricey and either way i now would check all dimensions regardless of bran As far as the bottom end i typically trust my machinnist but i do still plastigauge rods and mains .

Any identifying marks on the faces of what you pulled out?

Wow that sucks! I have an OPG set that I am going to install. Guess I’ll have to spec mine. But...that steel is way too soft to score like that from hand cranking.
