This means GM (Reuess and AO) didn't have to go to anyone to justify and win approval for these models. The money and expectation for profit are there from the get go.

I figured a quick release was bad, it will be worse if profits were wrongfully projected AND these projects were given the Green light. They threw caution to the wind and it backfired.

It wouldnt surprise me to see the SS go sterile with upgrades and the z28 thingy get canceled. The 1LE will be the talking point now but at $42,500 on a 1SS, it's gettin' expensive for a base V8. The 1LE package has lost some of the competition aspect.

A cooling issue or any doubts about performance now will be the end of it.

The 2015-'16 Mustang is just a really, really good car for the money. It's very new and exciting to see in person.

I didn't even know the Camaro got a refresh, haha. I knew it had a new look, but thought it was just a small change. Knowing that this is considered the nextgen, ouch. Looks good and all, but not enough change. Mustang fan since birth (no choice since family), but I do like the looks of the new Camaro. Would never buy one, but not bad. I am just surprised this is the next gen, Chevy needs to realize stats are not enough. Looks are everything for cars to most people, performance second. Only us enthusiast care about numbers, and most of us already planted a flag somewhere.

Actually...the S550 project did start out as a S197 evolution...but was eventually dropped and the platform was fresh from the ground up. A few design elements are similar, but the platforms are not related at all.

The S550 chassis does in fact borrow a ton from the S197. The front subframes are nearly interchangeable according to testing done by BMR.

One of those is mine!

3/31/16 I took delivery of mine. GT Convertible, Black.

I am elated to be a part of the growing numbers for March and hoping that the Mustang sales continue to grow. I love this new trend!

I had a 2013 V6 Convertible that got flooded last year and I bought a Escape to replace it. I had to trade the escape in for this one and so glad I did! I have never had a 5.0 before and I am loving the raw power and sound this machine makes! This car is so much fun to drive! I am loving it!

One reason why Ford does better...

Chrysler/Fiat/Dodge and Chevy still insist on using pushrod V8's. Okay, you can do impressive things with them. I'm pretty sure I've read somewhere that Hemi technology doesn't work so well with overhead cams. However, Ford has embraced the future and not looked back. Not a pushrod motor in sight anywhere in the Ford camp...

Maybe the pushrods warm the hearts of the old geezers, but for people my age and younger, yeah, we pay attention to the underlying technology ;) Heck, I thought pushrod engines were yestertech back in the 1980's!

Ford's last vestige of old school car design was the solid axle in the back. That was enough to keep me away from the S197 Mustang. Ford took away my two biggest excuses for not buying a pony car-the live axle and lack of a relatively efficient engine option :ford:

The original Hemi head design (Gen2) was tested with a DOHC configuration..

http://www.thehemi.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=6211&sid=eff232927684c4cda6bd81d328094bc8

The A925 426 DOHC Hemi. Two were made, one destroyed and one exists in pieces. They never ran under their own power, only electrically to test valve train geometry and such. They were to have a 7,000 RPM redline and were directly because of the 427 Ford "cammer" SOHC motors.

NASCAR got one look at the prototypes and blueprints and immediately said no. That was the end of that.

That's interesting. The 6th gen Camaro has been out for a couple months now...given how GM made a big deal about the 5th gen outselling the updated S197, you'd think that they would have maintained that momentum, especially since most of the tests of the 6th gen car rave about the handling.

OHC is actually older tech than pushrods. Ford had an all aluminum 32V DOHC hemispherical head V8 in the 1940s.

And what 1320 said is true. My understanding is that Chrysler cobbled together the most insane looking setup they could that didn't actually work so that the Cammer wouldn't see the light of day.

Not really. They chose to style it more like a new Malibu mutant refresh then a completely new style that frankly doesn't look good as the 5th gen. Performance is there. Oh and they raised the price. Sales are exactly what many people predicted.

You...haven't looked at an LS or LT (or a new gen Hemi), have you? There isn't much 'old school' about it. I like the Coyote very much, but to deny the OHV engines from GM and Chrysler are pretty darn good is outright foolishness.

Also, Hemi type combustion chamber designs are slightly easier to do with overhead cams (I know Toyota had an OHC engine with a Hemi design back in the day). The real reason they aren't used much any more has to do with thermal efficiency if memory serves. Finally, the new gen Hemi isn't technically a 'true' Hemi. It's close, but not quite the real McCoy.

Other than the dual port grille (GM term, not mine), I don't see much if any Malibu in the new Camaro. I will agree that retaining the outright retro styling from the 5th gen was a mistake, though.

To Help you make your point I happen to have some pictures of My DIB 2015 next to a DIB 2014

And from a distance it's even more stark

If you can't spot the differences from 100 yards away, I'm not sure you could spot the difference between a 2015 and 2016 Camaro if you were pinned between the two
I will never understand why people say this. The only things that really carry over are the proportions that vertical tail lights. Everything else is changed.
