March 2016 Mustang Sales

I was at Cars and Coffee here in Greensboro last week and a few 16 Camaro's were there. They literally got no attention. None. It was really telling. Myself and a few other S550s were there and I can tell you this...compared to the new Camaro, the S550s are rock stars.
TRUTH,I am a Coyote S197 MUSTANG owner, and I can say for a fact that there is very little love/like for the S550 among the S197 owners,it is prob worse than the Mustang VS the Camaro,at the car shows the S550"s get passed right on by,when asked if a S197 owner would trade his Mustang in for a S550,the response is are you out of your F"n mind.Everyone has a favorite car some like the Challanger/ Camaro,you shouldn't feel bad if it"s not your taste,cause it ain"t your money either, and you don"t have to drive it,just be glad you live in America and you have a choice.

I too am very surprised by the strong March sales numbers for the 2016 Mustang. I think the beautiful interior is one reason the Mustang is selling so well. I hope to buy a new Mustang before Ford changes the interior design and builds an interior like what is the rage in the high end exotic sports cars. Just wait until people start buying Mustangs up here in the frozen North. April sales should really pick up over March.

I looked at the new camaro before I bought the mustang, didn't care for the styling, interior, or visibility. Drives nice and if I was looking for a track/weekend only car maybe I'd have considered it more, but I don't spend my life on the track. I felt like I could live with mustang day to day but I'd have gotten sick of the camaro.

Agree. I talked to one of the guys at work who was looking at cars, said the Camaro was too hard to see out of - a fail.

Frankly most of us do not really know how to drive our cars at the limit. We are daily drivers and want to have a little fun in the process. The Camaro may be slightly better out on the track, but for the vast majority of us that is not how we spend our time.

And yes, I want to improve my driving skills!!!!

Someone like you will always be welcome here, no reason to be a hack. Both cars have their plusses and minuses. One of my engineering instructors ingrained it into me, that when you are asking what is best, the answer is almost always "it depends". Until you put down what your constraints are, there is very rarely a clear winner. If you love Chevy (hey, I will admit I am a Ford guy... nothing wrong with it, it is my money to spend), don't care so much about visibility, interior space or cargo space, and want the fastest bang for the buck in a factory configuration, it is the Camaro right now. If you want something livable, or are planning to mod, the Mustang is the better choice. And the numbers right now speak to what more people value...

Not to mention they look better, have a more thoughtful design, and have a soul.
The camaro simply is the kid that is always trying to play catch up and is jumping up and down saying "Look at me, look at me!"

While there is no denying the Camaro's spec sheet or performance, the problem for GM was as others said, a car enthusiast like me has to look fairly close to tell a 5g from a 6g, A non car person would have to be within spitting distance.

The Mustang has attracted alot of new buyers who have never owned one (like me). The Camaro will appeal to those who already bought one and loved it and therein lies the problem. If I have a perfectly good 5G between 0 and 6 years old that I am happy with, why would I put myself in back into or further in debt for a car that looks basically the same.If you were in the market for a New Camaro, it's a no brainier, it is better than the 5g for a couple of $1000 more. But if your 5g is paid off or nearly paid off, it's just not $40k better. and unloading your 5g now that the 6g is out is not going to be easy. I expect the used 5g market to heat up as the resale value of the 5 g drops putting it within the reach of people who cannot afford a new one and they can get 90% of the looks of the 6g at 50% of the price. Unfortunately for GM, most used car sales make them $0.

What are dealers offering on a trade-in for a 5g now?

In the wild, side by side, they look different. The overall shape is the same, the 6th gen is just more chiseled.
