What works? Thinking about wrapping the intake tube in heatshield wrap or going old school with a water mist setup hooked to a switch under the gas pedal. Had this setup on a foxbody and it worked well and was super simple to setup.

in a heatwave here, temps about 90*. IATs are about 100*. Not awful but the car is noticeably sluggish in the midrange compared to when it’s cooler out.

It’s a PP1 car with the big radiator, on E85, ford performance grille with more airflow to the airbox inlet. Cylinder head temps are fine, 190* or so.

I also have an issue with high IATS, though mine reach in excess of 114*-128* in 88* weather...and I have a RTR grille and Velossa Ram Air Intake with stock intake system/sound resonator deleted...

Watching this thread.

I mean, the sluggish factor is not going to improve much if you're in a 90*+ heatwave. Even if you get it down to near ambient, you'll still be in the low 90s and the car will feel just as sluggish.

With the OEM intake, there's not much you can do to improve things. Opening up the grill where the snorkel pulls air from is the best thing for that intake but you've already done that. Wrapping the intake doesn't do much for IATs as the air moves too fast to really soak up heat as it goes through the intake tube.

Yeah that’s kinda what I thought just wanted to see if someone had an out of the box solution. I have the ford performance grille which is opened up on the intake side already.

You can do meth injection, but that seems overkill for a near stock N/A car.

You're already cooling down the intake charge with E85 as it goes into the cylinder, so cooling it prior to the valves even with some sort of spray system won't do much for your setup. If you were running a 14:1 motor with big cams and revving to 9000rpm maybe, but not really for a stock engine.

You have port and DI and on e85. 100deg iat vs 90deg won make any difference. 1% gain at best. So that's what 4.2whp on your car? That would be peak hp also.

It's supposed to be 43c (109.4F) here in Ontario. (33c + Humidex).

This is going to become an increasingly regular trend during the summer months so was gonna potentially look around at options myself.

You guys are making too much sense dammit. Guess I should leave well enough alone and wait for cooler temps.

I understand doing a little project. All mods are cumulative. A few mods like this may put you in front of your pals car, that in and of itself would be worth it LOL.

maybe I’ll try to hook up a water mist kit with spare parts around the garage just for fun. I have the switch, nozzle, tubing, think I just need a relay and a cheap Amazon reptile humidifier pump.

Would you not just repurpose the windshield sprayer system?
That is what I am likely doing later on once I get cooling down and some radiator boxing done

I still need my windshield sprayer. I live in big bug country. look up the lake st Clair mayfly hatch. This is a picture someone posted a few years ago on Facebook from a few miles from my work.

I do actually have a spare sprayer though that I took out of my old f150…
