Lowering Spring question

The site I was shopping for springs on has both plates and the bolts. The bolts weren’t expensive at all. The plates aren’t really that bad. When I get the springs, I may just pick up a set of the bolts just to have them if necessary

I cannot belive the mustang does not have camber bolts, thats just cheap. But; I have seen on this forum where people have made adjustable strut camber ovaled bolts and I guess they did the job. If money was an issue, I would have modified and or found a camber bolt which would work with our struts.
They have camber bolts oem, thats how they adjust camber in the front. However they are very very limited, the ones you buy add another + or - 2deg camber, which would allow you to run based off my old car, down to -.5deg camber which would allow you to go back to spec. Though getting someone to align this now is tricky, personally 3 shops knowing i had camber bolts didnt even touch the camber bolt and left it at 0deg change, which is amazing that i spent the money for the bolt and they couldnt do anything with it

Man that sucks. Did you tell them you installed camber bolts?

Yes, 2 “normal shops” were told, the one performance shop who only works on heavy modified cars is the one who i paid to install them (125$ to put two bolts in! I couldve done it but i wanted them to actually adjust it right so i paid, then 250$ for an alignment) and all 3 shops left it at 0 deg camber and told me thats all it could be done to. I didnt go back and cry to them because i dont trust a shop that given the info on a silver platter, they still cant do it right then theyre unable to be trusted for a second chance

I know with steeda my front would not go more positive than -1.7. I replaced them with a brand which allowed for Camber and Caster adjustment. My front camber is set at -1.1

My 2017 GT came with lowering Ford Performance springs-every other suspension component was standard, even shocks. It looked excellent but the rear would 'hammer' over road bumps. I couldn't find anything on the net, only suggestions that Steeda products would 'fix' the issue. Over the years remedies I tried: lower tyre pressures; cut bump stops; Eibach springs; Bilstein rear shocks; koni rear shocks. All to no avail 😭.Finally, Putting the standard mustang rear springs back in FIXED the rear 'hammering' over bumps! Who would have thought a half inch drop in rear ride height would have such a negative impact on the ride. Just shows the engineering finess that goes into these cars. No problem with the lowering of the front though. I still haven't come across anyone talking about the lowered 'hammering' rear. Hope this helps.

You would also think if it is THAT necessary to go as far as get a bump steer kit, for springs, that a single company who makes springs would mention the need for anything you say is necessary
None of this lowering stuff is road legal (offroad use only) not DOT, TUV, JAL or anything else the sellers just want the money and will not mandate all the requirred parts because few will buy if they know whatrs involved.

M1 is not some clapped out ricer just slam lowering springs on it and bounce and dart way down the road with 470 HP on tap.

IMO why buy lowring springs when can just cut your own.....if gonna do a hack job do it right haha.

With your $3K budget I just did monoball bearings from Cortex Racing, Front & Rear sway bars from Steeda, Steeda Dual Rate Springs, end links from AAD, vertical links from AAD, and Maximum Motorsports CC plates.

What I didn’t buy: new shocks and struts, new bump stops

Car handles amazing and aligned.

So if the extended ball joint control arms are so important, how come Steeda is the only company that makes them? (I did search, granted I only spent a few minutes looking, but the only ones I saw were Steeda’s.) Seems if they really were that important, every suspension company would make them.

I have a set of the extended ball joint arms and bump steer kit sitting in my garage, my car handles great, haven’t felt a reason to install them. Guess I should consider myself lucky I haven’t went flying off the road and into trees, cars, and posts!

Also, how is only replacing springs going to make a Mach 1’s bounce and dart down the road? Mach 1’s have magneride. There are not any aftermarket magneride shocks, struts, or bumps stops available anywhere. Lots of members on here have installed just lowering springs on magneride equipped cars. (GT’s, Bullitt’s, Mach 1’s. ) Most seem pretty happy, can’t say I have read that many complaints.

The hammering you talk about is a stiff ride, eibach springs are stiffer than ford performance. My drag springs are softer than your now standard springs and feel “less hammery”

the hammering has nothing to do with ride height

Thats crazy, to call lowering springs a hack job and to say that it ruins the car… you have a mach 1, not a porsche 911.
Its a handling package on a car that had okay handling for what it is…

if you want to talk engineered suspension, talk gt500. Gt350. Other cars which actually can handle well.

do you keep a stock exhaust because you dont want to mess up the exhaust flow the factory deemed necessary too? Mods arent hack jobs, you dont need to spend 5 thousand dollars for a good mod

if you want to talk engineered suspension, talk gt500. Gt350. Other cars which actually can handle well.
Not sure you want that argument as there are cheaper cars with better chassis to be had out there.....but i get what you're trying to convey to him.

I agree with your reply. I have the Steeda dual rate Ultimate springs with my magneride GT and it drives nice, firm but not over firm.
