Or can just buy spacers to get wheels closer to fender opening significantly altering optics of wheel gap and see if it's good enough before cutting own springs and reinstalling with same bump stops and joints.

Never know might work.
I did really like the effects of properly flush wheels (I replaced with aftermarket 10" ET35 wheels instead of spacers) but it really helped the look.

There's still some gap if you only do wheels, but personally I didn't feel any need to drop it after that. Eventually it got a slight drop just to get higher spring rates in there.

I think the logical choice is going with a 55 series sidewall tire to shore up that gap.

Maybe, but then your changing overall wheel diameter so you should change the wheel speed calculation as well

lowering the car has its own benefits as well

depends on preference and imo most importantly if the owner wants to keep the height from car to floor or lower it as either option ^ is fine for cosmetics

Realistically speaking its not a bad idea though!

if ride height for scraping reasons would be an issue, its totally not a bad idea to get a slightly bigger diameter tire on there
