Is the engine cover needed?

It's not needed, but it does lower noise a trifle. Mine has been in my attic for 4 years.

Yeah, I thought the main point of the cover was probably to muffle direct injection noises.

It might have prevented a few owners from complaining about "the tick".

I've got a '21 GT with the HUGE engine cover, is it needed? What are the advantages or disadvantages of leaving it off?

I believe the purpose for the engine covers is in case of fire in the bay. There should be material underneath the cover?

Nope, that's what the hood blanket is for. The cover is just molded plastic. Imo it's more for appearance than anything else. I've had it on and off a bunch and didn't notice any change in the 2k rattle.

ABS plastic will actually fuel a fire. So unless there is a Kevlar layer or other form of flame-proof material under the cover (and there isn't) then it's actually more of a fire supporter than a suppressor.

My tuner was havening an problem at first because I have a 87mm throttle body and the intake is 121mm it was suppling To much air so I had to install 47 pound injectors, but other than that it runs fine

I had mine off for a while but decided to paint it and put it back on. I was able to pick up a spare and spare set of coil covers (unpainted) in the event I want to go back to stock. As for now, they’re garage decorations.

The earlier model’s version of the Coyote (before 2018 my) sure had better looking engine dress up. Much better available covers in the aftermarket too. I’m assuming what @k_myers has won’t work on 2018+?

I d rather look at hoses etc than a piece of black plastic . I was trying to follow a hose the other day and that covers just blocks everything. Must hold in heat too??

Much better Now just gotta take the giraffe neck oil filler off and good to go The cap just pops back on the valve cover no problem...

I have no real evidence but on all my cars I tend to believe the large mass of black cosmetic plastic isn’t good for cooling.
