I installed the Steeda trans mount bushing insert about 6k miles ago and have been dealing with occasional 2nd gear lockout issues ever since. It's most consistent when shifting at WOT and not necessarily at redline.

About 2k miles previous to that, I installed the Steeda shifter base bushing bracket and their street short throw shifter. Didn't notice any issues until after the trans mount bushing insert was installed.

I'll even occasionally get the 2nd gear lockout under medium throttle use or when downshifting from 3rd. Really weird. Thinking I have a bum 2nd gear synchro.

Sorry for the hijack but it's related so figured worth sharing.

Are you going to try and warranty it or repair the suspected bad synchro yourself?

Not sure yet. It's only moderately annoying so I've been putting it off. Can't decide if it's worth swapping in an MGW to see if that helps or just putting the shifter bits back to stock and trying for a warranty fix. It's intermittent and requires pretty hard throttle use on the 1-2 shift to expose the issue. I guess a tech would figure that out.

I probably won't attempt a synchro replacement on my own. I did all my own work thus far (mods in sig below) but a trans tear-down looks intimidating from what I saw in your thread.

Car drives *extremely* well otherwise so replacing it outright with a Mach 1, for example, seems like overkill. I guess a Calimer Stage 1 is another option. Or, just paying my local trans shop to do a rebuild with CF synchros.

I hear you. It was a bit intimidating to me too, but I just went for it. It can’t hurt to shoot for warranty work. All they can do is say yay or nay.

After installing the MGW shifter (x spec with flat stick handle) i can't believe it's the same transmission. Feels completely different, no more plastic-y shift feel, far less gear nibble, extremely positive shifts. Only annoyance for me is shifting into 6th, if you don't put enough lateral pressure it's easy to downshift to 4th instead of upshift to 6th. But obviously optimizing the 1-2 shift, 2-3 shift, and 4-3 shifts was their benchmark and they nailed it.

I bought an MGW x spec, weighted shift knob and trans insert. This is the first car I’ve taken the time to learn about with this passion so I’ve taken things slow with my mods.
The biggest difference was the MGW, the trans insert had a whine for a few days and then quieted down with driving time and the car has a little more vibration when revving in neutral but made things just a tad stiffer in the 1-2 shift. Another difference in pedal feel for me personally was diff bushings. Probably just a placebo effect but it made the clutch feel a little better and again no loud noises but there is still a noticeable whine from the diff if you’re listening for it but I can never hear it over my exhaust or radio. I’m gonna try a SS clutch line from Steeda next and then after that is gonna be BG fluids. The trans feels so good now so I’m not in any rush lol.

I talked with George, the tech guy at MGW. I brought up the lateral pressure issue in both 1-2 and 5-6. He told me that’s exactly the way they designed it.
I am pretty much used to it after a few months, just have to pay attention, not as easy to just limp wrist it, but not as sloppy either, which is why I bought it.
