The 10R80 is an adaptive learning transmission. It takes time for it to learn. It will learn bad habits. The best thing to do, if you don't want to tune, is clear the KAM (keep alive memory) and Adaptive learning tables using ForScan though a OBDII port dongle. Once you do, you'll need to dive it for a while and it will relearn. Be patient, it will be rough before it smooths out. Once it does, and you are happy, go back in with ForScan and "HALT" the learning. Do not use "STOP".
They way I understand it, the adaptive learning is more about the trans itself and not the driver. It gathers data from each shift and if something is going outside the settings (timing, flair, slipping, wear, etc), it makes adjustment to compensate.

But only in my Ecoboost mustang

Ford… WOW….

How is the 10r80 in my Btonco tuned so much better than in my ecoboost???

WHO IN GODS GREY EARTH tunes a trans in a 4cyl car to drop to 1200 rpm in anything but first gear???????

That is possibly my only complaint so far is the luggy, buggy, jerky transmission….

Ugggggghhhhhh
I’m sure many people have said the same. Go for a manual it’s going to completely remove every single problem that everyone is complaining about with the auto.

I tried the FORscan update on my 2021 GT. Cleared the adaptive learning tables, then stopped adaptive learning. Wow, what a difference! Drives like a normal car! Smooth shifts, up and down. No hesitation, jerking or jumping gears.
I can't find a clear answer as to whether there is any potential harm to the trans by keeping adaptive learning stopped. I'm going to roll with it for a while and see what happens but for now I'm very happy with the change!

The only thing I can think of is that the trans learns by sampling each shift and makes adjustment. Wear, slipping, flair, etc. Due to its complex, electromechanical makeup, and without adaptive control overtime, it could create problems. My opinion

My '23 GT/CS has the 10R80 and at first, it was very strange. At about 10K miles, it seemed to settle down and now it's the smoothest auto trans that I've ever driven in all modes. It took a long time to 'learn.' I also drive it gently and consistently 95% of the time, which may help.

I think the less you drive the car, the transmission woes seem to show it's ugly head as well. I don't drive mine as much as I should, although I did drive it more this summer than any other summer before.

Once in a while, I hate the way the car drives and once in a while, I love the way the car drives. It's weird. It's not the powerplant or the seating or anything like that. Sometimes I think it's because I'm so used to my daily driver.

It shifts worse when its cold. Where I live, it takes at least an hour of driving in the city to get it fully warmed up.

I've noticed that as well. I always let the car idle a bit before actually driving it. Back it out of the garage and let it sit on the driveway for about 5 - 6 minutes, but I do understand it needs more time than that. I drive it casually until I feel it is ready/warmed up.

Not gonna lie, sometimes I do miss the 6 speed manual.

The 10R80 uses Mercon ULV ATF. This stuff expands as it gets hot. That is why you need to check the level when the xmisson is hot. Big PIA by the way. The level is much different when cold. There is a TSB about adding a quart, but that was for cars before 2020.

Me too. My only complaint was traffic. Not sure about now but the MT82 was not great. The tremic was awesome but 1st gear was a bit high. You needed 3.73 for that

10 gears is too much. Give me 8 tops in an AT.

Why? I thought the same thing when I first had the ZF 8-speed in my Scat Pack. Oh, I want 10 speeds. 7 for acceleration up and to around the 1/4 mile +overdrives. It's about torque multiplication, at any given speed the 10-speed is going to be in a much higher numerical gear. The extra shift time for extra gears is tiny compared to the torque multiplication. Then on top of that is with all the gears, the car runs in the powerband at WOT all the time.

Just too much shifting, too busy. I've only ever driven a rental ecoboost 10 speed but it was constantly trying to figure out what to do.
