Had similar sounds when going down a steep hill and I have to slow down and start up again. Sounds like 3rd gear for me. But since I had the VVT Exhaust solenoids replaced. The transmission drives like a gem. It was low on oil and had a sticky solenoid when I bought it new. I noticed the low oil by feel because I had experience with low oil on my previous mustangs transmission. But I really like the 10 speed. Since the fixes were done that is. Just had my 2nd trans oil change at 63K miles.

Cars officially mine this month. So happy to have it paid off.
Yeah REALLY owning it is a great feeling. Congrats!

But only in my Ecoboost mustang

Ford… WOW….

How is the 10r80 in my Btonco tuned so much better than in my ecoboost???

WHO IN GODS GREY EARTH tunes a trans in a 4cyl car to drop to 1200 rpm in anything but first gear???????

That is possibly my only complaint so far is the luggy, buggy, jerky transmission….

Ugggggghhhhhh

Ok. Bye.

Just a point of clarification, the Bronco has the 10R60, while the Mustang has the 10R80. Same trans design, different gearing and torque holding capability. You'd also assume that the tune /shift strategy would be significantly different between the two applications, and there are perhaps cooling and valve body differences.

I've found the 10R60 in my Bronco to be pretty unobtrusive with the TT2.7L. I drove a rental Mustang GT with the 10R80 a few years ago, and it was absolutely horrible. I got dragged here for complaining about it at the time.

I've said it in other threads, but the 10R80 in my F150 is a steaming pile. I just didn't realize how bad until I got my '23 Jeep with the ZF8.

However, due to a bricked PCM, the truck got re-flashed at the dealer a few months back and shifting is markedly better than it had been. ZF8 good? No, not even close. But considerably better. I have to assume the OEM trans cal is better now than when it was in '19.

Ohhh i musta read the digits wrong, i kinda figured the broncos 10 speed would be beefier..

But… yeah… it’s solid and predictable….

As someone said, it's the luck of the draw I guess. I haven't had any issues with my trans with the base GT 3.15 rear end. In drive, it does upshift sooner if you're anything other than WOT which makes sense as it's giving the best economy. In sport mode, the shifts are later and held longer even if you're only at 1/2 throttle; WOT it will chirp the tires on 1-2 shift which never happens in normal drive mode. I've never experienced erratic or harsh upshift/downshift as some others have had happen and it never goes to 7th gear at 25 mph.

Count me as lucky too. I have not had any issues discussed on this forum. Full disclosure though, I am 65 yrs old so I may not drive as hard as others I don’t know. When I do get on it so others can hear what a real car sounds like I can’t even feel the shifts happening through the gears. Just see it on the dash. One of the smoothest transmissions I have ever had.

It's pretty obvious that the 10R60 benefited from the early teething issues of the 10R80. Aside from the doubly defective CDF drum in early 10R80s, the tuning was so bad that the FP tune is a minimum requirement. It's just flat out easier to say avoid 2018-2021 10R80s completely.

My dad has a Grand Cherokee with the ZF8. For regular cruising, I see no difference between the two. 1-2 is a bit smoother in the 10R60 while 6-8 are a bit smoother in the ZF8.

If you want to do a quick 0-30, the 10R60 hangs 2 way too long and then slams it. Being in M fixes this. The ZF8 smooths the shift as you let your foot off the throttle. Issue doesn't exist with the 10R60 in manual; it's pretty obviously a software problem.

The 10R80 is an adaptive learning transmission. It takes time for it to learn. It will learn bad habits. The best thing to do, if you don't want to tune, is clear the KAM (keep alive memory) and Adaptive learning tables using ForScan though a OBDII port dongle. Once you do, you'll need to dive it for a while and it will relearn. Be patient, it will be rough before it smooths out. Once it does, and you are happy, go back in with ForScan and "HALT" the learning. Do not use "STOP".

That because OEM the strategy is crappola. You need to take matters in your own hands.

I drove the 10R80 GT in Hawaii, so lots of stop and go and a speed limit of 35 MPH in most places. The strategy was so fuxxors. My coworker, knowing that I had a Mustang GT, kept asking me if mine drove as bad as the one we were in. I was like - Nope. I have a manual, and it drives great, this is just a massive piece of crap.

I re did the strategy in mine. It shifts awesome now. It's always in the right gear, it shifts firm but not stupid and the converter full lock up is 6th gear. It runs 10 degrees cooler now.

not being able to roll a stop sign/right turn in 2nd is annoying. shifting from 3 to 1 in that scenario is annoying. Drive is too hesitant to downshift, while sport mode is too eager to downshift more gears than necessary, if throttle is at ~75%.
Mucking around with the tables I have it holding second during a slow down for stoplight and signs or going around corners. It wont drop to first until its practically stopped
