Complete and utter rubbish. there have been no successful corona virus vaccines and what we do have have taken years to come up with At least read the trash you post before you click reply. You say no successful coronavirus vaccines (untrue) and then say the ones that there are took years to develop - make your mind up.

You are just the sort of idiot who will spread the disease whilst claiming your constitutional rights and freedoms, but not giving a shit about other peoples rights and freedoms to not have to put up with you and your reckless behaviour spreading disease. Try acting responsibly, it might not hurt your ego as much as you think.
As ol Uncle Joe would say, "come on, man!". There are no human vaccines for coronaviruses. Let's not resort to silly name calling.

absolutely. Because they have the power of gov't oppression to ride the coat tails of to FORCE the bleating sheep populace to get injected. Even if the citizen doesn't pay $$$ out of their own pocket immediately - the drug companies will be RICHLY rewarded from the state coffers.

I'm just waiting for the mandatory imposition of "vax papers, please" before being allowed to travel. I think I'll just sew a yellow 6-point star on my jacket sleeve now and get ahead of the edict. And all this for what amounts to just a bad flu...
Eh I have no problem with this. I get a flu shot every year and keep other vaccinations up to date. I'd certainly get the covid vaccine when available, assuming I already didn't have an asymptomatic case of it and they can get a better handle on how long immunity lasts.

It already has mutated - at least 78 different genotypes already. (edited) It depends how it mutates and how the vaccine works. It clearly isn't going to be easy, but there are some genuinely novel process here being investigated at Oxford with trials starting tomorrow on humans so not as far fetched as you are suggesting.

The trouble is without a vaccine (if we assume your assertions are correct that it is a pointless money making process) what would you do ? treatments are looking a bit flaky, lockdowns unpopular - what would you do if you were in charge ?
We do the same thing that we do for every illness. Our best.

I would start easing restrictions, and have no restrictions whatsoever in rural areas. And unless hospitals get overwhelmed I would have zero restrictions. I would wait a couple months at most to turn elective surgeries back on. Yes people will get sick and some will die. It's very sad, but we are all going to die eventually. Versions of Corona virus are going to be out there and some people won't be able to withstand the disease. Everyone will eventually be exposed if they haven't already been exposed. It's far too pervasive to eliminate like polio or something. It's already become a hard core version of the common cold - as you pointed out above (78 genomes).

It's unsustainable to try to prevent people from ever getting a disease by forcing everyone to stay at home. Those who have the financial means and are concerned about catching it can stay at home, but most of us should be out living life like normal.

Indeed - a civilised nation
And there from your own fingers comes the truth, you think you are civilized and the rest of us aren't. That's why you have such an irrational hatred for DJT, an uncivilized creten shadows the importance of the great British Empire. You have to watch our news to really see anything of significance that is happening and you have to follow our politicians because your own are irrelevant. It's a great big case of penis envy.

We don't feel the need to run around with huge guns (penis substitute) over here.

Civility - formal politeness and courtesy in behaviour or speech. No mention of gun waving.

I don't hate DT, I just find him ridiculous at times. A bit like a 5 year old who has had his toys taken away and isn't getting his own way.

A 50 cal is a huge gun. Those were all normal sized guns. I suppose when you aren't accustomed to seeing any guns at all, they seem large to you.

That photo of the guys with guns protesting made me feel happy and warm inside. I really like to see American citizens standing up for their rights. It's comforting to know there aren't any black-booted government thugs stepping on the necks of unarmed citizens who can't defend themselves. Or at least, it's not completely easy for them to do that here in America.

Never come across any black booted government thugs over here so no need for any guns. You understanding of the UK is very distorted. I live in a village of around 600 people, pretty sure none have guns (except for the farmer for vermin control) and I have never owned nor never felt the need for a gun. I'm not going to shoot anybody (I don't have a gun), nobody is going to shoot me (because nobody around here has a gun) so a whole industry is rendered pointless.

Bunny Rabbits are supposed to make you feel happy and warm not bloody guns ! UK citizens have their rights protected by the police and the rule of law, not uncontrolled, unregulated self appointed vigilantes with their own personal agendas.

Does that mean you would not have applied any restrictions in NY ? You would you wait for the health service to be overwhelmed before applying restrictions? Are you aware of the lag between applying restrictions and the effects of those restrictions ? The poor and unfortunate have to go to work and be exposed because they can't afford to stay safe at home ? Some quite big statements in you control policy there that could leave a lot of blood on you hands ?

I wouldn't go standing for election with that sort of manifesto !

We are all going to die eventually - true, but that doesn't mean you can nuke NY and say 'oh well they were all going to die anyway'

Wait up...

Erm...stay at home, deprive the virus of hosts.

No, you just need a population of people who are willing to listen and participate. The faster they understand and comply, the faster it’s over. Half arsed measures will only slow it down as you’ve already noted. Do it PROPERLY.

The US is losing upward of 2000 people per day with restrictions in place (2800 yesterday, 2100 so far today, which isn’t over yet....)
EDIT: that number climbed by more than 100 in the time it took me to write this reply, making it 2200 now.

I don’t know that we really want to see what that number might look like with the restrictions lifted.
It’s really a case of red vs blue. Red looks bad enough on a linear scale without even allowing for exponential spread.

Alternatively, you could take it very seriously, follow best practices for a month or so and get something that looks like Australia or South Korea without having to wait for a vaccine and without decimating your economy due to months and months of restrictions which will need to remain in place for as long as the population refuses to accept social responsibility/do as they’re asked.

I don't get why you assume people who own guns have a first instinct of wanting to break the law and shoot someone. Your vision of reality seems really warped to me.

Guns are good for hunting yes, but they are also good for protecting the populace from an over-reaching government.

Does that mean you would not have applied any restrictions in NY ? You would you wait for the health service to be overwhelmed before applying restrictions? No, some cities still need to be locked down, but most of the country does not.

I think it's disgusting to say that anyone who advocates for freedom has "blood on their hands" because someone else died from an illness. I'm not saying old people with lung conditions should be forced to contract a disease. I'm advocating for freedom for people to do what they want. And people aren't stupid. At least most aren't. If they are 80 something years old and at risk for dying from Covid, they will probably take precautions. And if they don't want to, I think that should be their choice.

Wait up...

Your graphs are all about people who TESTED positive. I believe many many more people have already had this than those few famous people and older people who got really sick from it. Most younger and healthy people have minor or no symptoms. There have been several studies of tested individuals where they were saying that 80X more people have had it than originally thought. I wouldn't be surprised if it's 400X in some areas. The genie is out of the bottle. There's no putting it back in.

It's like trying to wish away the flu or common cold. Too many people have had these viruses for them to ever be contained.

The government is printing money and giving it away. That is not a fiscally sound or sustainable way to do things. We need to end it as quickly as possible.
