I don't think this thing is all that bad. Once I put the MGW shifter, braided stainless clutchline, and Steeda assist spring, this thing shifts pretty good. My 1-2 and 2-1 shifts at slow speeds can be little pinbally, but everything else is pretty smooth going in and out of gear.

One of these days I'll put this exedy clutch in it.

It took me a while, but there is a certain finesse to move the shifter through the gears with a smooth action. It doesn't like being rammed into gear with a heavy hand. I also found it helps to roll the throttle off slower than you engage the clutch. If that makes sense? Allows the engine to spin a little higher while you move the shifter and let the clutch back out.

I spotted a used tremec 3160 from a mustang and was thinking about doing the swap. But what would I really notice?

What is needed to do a swap? I haven't seen any guides on the process, but I'd be worried it isn't worth the cost/effort.

Why not do what you can to tweak the getrag you have, or swap in a D4? Those seem to be somewhat improved.

I've done similar upgrades to my trans and have a similar opinion. The biggest bang for the buck upgrade is fluid IMO.

I have a lot of NVH but mine is a dedicated track car so who cares. A lot of people that drive in it ask me if I have straight cut gears or if it's boosted. I just laugh and say it's whiney :cwl:

Tonight I will ask the wife if she has straight cut gears or if she's boosted ... :giggle:

I joke, she is actually very tolerant of me ... :inlove:

Can't see anyone enjoying one that had a TR6060 or T56 in a previous car....
My Viper has a T6060 and while I can say it is an entirely different (and objectively better) experience (feels like operating the bolt on a high powered rifle) the Getrag isn't absolute garbage, it's just different. (and my Mustang is stock)

The MT82 in my 2022 is light years better than the MT82 in my 2013 was.

Those early Getrags are most of the reason for the ongoing stigma against the MT82. Those stigmas can last an absurd amount of time. Some people still think Mustangs are solid axle straight line machines that can't turn.

I come from a time when we wrote letters. So I have to be taught the short cuts. LOL Sorry.

First thing I did was to swap out that crappy stock shifter. There was so much play in that thing that it starts wobbling from just looking at it. Went with the Steeda short throw and shifter base bushing bracket and there is no play in it at all. Installed the Steeda clutch spring back in December and wish I had done it sooner. Even with the new spring its not that bad to drive in heavy traffic.

The only noticeable NVH I have had was from the Steeda shift knob. I used a jam nut when I put it on and I think that was what was causing it. I ended up putting the factory one back on and that solved the issue. I may reinstall the Steeda one and just use loctite this time without the jam nut.

Did you use the OEM reverse lock-out collar? I did when I installed their race shifter, and that's what buzzes on mine. I did use loctite on the Steeda knob. I have the Steeda collar now for whenever I feel like taking it apart again.

I still have the factory one. I have a Steeda collar, just never installed it. If I still get some rattling after I install it without the nut I may do the collar then.
