Find someone in your area with a jack and stands and save yourself some money. I've never paid for an install, but I'm cheap too... lol

Yeah if 400 bucks is too much for you then run away right now from modding. Seriously. I spent thousands of dollars modding motorcycles and cars. What a complete waste of money imo. I learned my lesson thankfully before it was too late. My current mustang is bone stock besides a license plate bracket and tint. Those are my "mods" for the car. Never again.
Yep, the way I look at it is.... for the extra money for parts and labor you could just have a GT350 etc. Smart man!

I......

I know there won't be total elimination of drone but dude it is bad all the time now!
I have a X-pipe on my mustang 5.0 and stock mufflers, and I'm very happy with the sound, but yes I'm a little older now. Not like when we use to slap on glass packs on are cars.....

All very true! Probably put $6k into my last Harley and got the same as I would for stock when I sold it. I'm not afraid to spend money for a good mod, and personal happiness but this is probably my worst mistake I've made in my car/bike ventures at 36 years old, but like I said, live and learn.
And as far as doing it myself, I attempted oil Change last week with floor jack and a stand, and I was very uncomfortable with the being under such a low car that it wasn't worth my head being crushed so I called it and had my local service shop do it.
I'll never be a car mechanic, I do low voltage and networks

Think I've spent about $3k in the last three weeks on various items for the car but they have all provided a better look, sound, or performance. Hasnt bugged me a bit, she's my baby.

Here is what I did:

SW Longtube Headers with HiFlow Cats ($1200 + 500 install + tune)
OEM everything else in terms of exhaust

The car has ZERO drone, but has much more rumble when light accelerating or at idle. Also, when you step on it - it ROARS. I am talking really deep and throaty.

Plus, this setup adds more hp than deleting your resonator or changing your mufflers.

You need a tune when doing this though. I'm staying away from tune for a while to keep warranty

Changing tips won't change the sound of the stock muffler.

...I'll add that a MRT H-pipe and Ford Racing Touring mufflers sound great, look great with no drone. Also saved a bit of cash over the cost of a full catback system. Works great for me, but as always, YMMV.

Damn man, sorry to hear the combo is such a drone machine :(

I've poked around a few other forums/threads on drone, and noticed a lot of people mention the drone really mellows out or goes away once a good layer of carbon buildup deposits (black stuff that appears in mufflers). That's the reason every exhaust changes tone a bit after 1,000 miles or so.

So another option to think about if you can just do the work yourself to save some $, is stick suitcase back in, drive it for 1,000-1,500 miles to coat the inside of the mufflers, and then see...

Thanks Andrei, That may work but I just don't have anymore money to pay Midas to keep changing out things. If I drove for a while maybe it would make a difference or maybe not but honestly I didn't want to drive the car anymore because I was annoyed with the sound. I bet the resonator would help a lot but now looking back I was happier with the way I had it, even though it sounded really nice from outside the car, it was too much for me. Live and learn

You could always pick up a complete stock catback system for $50 on Craigslist and just bolt that baby up in place of your current setup.
