That is fine for most, but not enough for this vehicle at Daytona. Not to sound like a broken record, but the information was sent up to the engineers and I guess they decided not to do anything about it.

Ironic that the Grand Touring Daytona would have this problem on the track it was named for.
Where could they find room for more capacity?

Ya, but: In the Corvette version, the differential shares the fluid with the gears and clutch. So they’ve had some wear issues. As I recall, they have to change the filters often due to the fluid getting contaminated by the diff wear. Not sure if they have found another solution.
They are dead serious about the DCT maintenance. You get a letter telling you that you must change the fluid and filter for DCT between 7-8k miles. I suppose then there is another maintenance at 14-15k but I haven’t had the car that long. Even if you have already done it, you have to do it again in the mileage window. Not doing the DCT service with dealership in the specified mileage window will result in loss of warranty.

I used to pay the dealer $35 for an oil change on my GT350. The dealer never seemed to have the oil or filter in stock, so I had them use mine. Of course, I was still buying the oil/filter, but at least I didn't have to pay the dealer markup on parts.

$1300 is pretty obscene for a fluid change, so I do understand the objection. That is a mistake on GM's part in my opinion.

20k mile service on the GT500's DCT cost me $900ish this summer. $40+ per quart for fluid and the filter was a couple hundred I think...Couldn't find em for cheaper online at that point but maybe now ya can

”Normal” and right are two very different things. This …. is not just on exotics. Dealers around here try the same thing on service trucks(450-550’s). Was quoted a grand for a service on one of my 550‘s by one dealer, the other a quarter of the price. The logic(sell job) was it was a procedure to do it. Needed 3 hours to do it. The procedure is to bring the tranny up to 170-180 to check proper level and top off. Complete …. that there’s anything special about transmission services. Simply trying to fleece the customer. Took me 45 minutes without a lift. All these cars are serviceable even for those with little ability.

Not sure if 'ironic' is the term I would use. It rhymes with the one I would use though.

You can't change the laws of physics. If you are running a supercharged 5.2L with a 16 gallon tank, just like the 500, it will use the same amount of fuel if driven the same way. Unless they have figured out a better fuel tank management system that makes every drop 100% usable, it isn't going to work with a 16 gallon tank. Even having to back off due to fuel starvation, it is very uncomfortable to get a cool down lap in because the tank is reading empty.

To fix the problem, I estimate you would need a 19 or 20 gallon tank, or drive like a pussy.

If it is 400 pounds heavier than the 500 it would use more fuel.

I thought about that as well, but the weight isn't official by ford. You could argue that if it's making 815 hp, that should be a higher fuel consumption as well.

I like to disassemble things.
There is some fuel economy data in the certification paperwork and the city rating looks to be just better than abysmal. The rating isn't the same as what you'd see on the sticker but I'll go back and look...a comparison to the same number for the GT500 should shed some light as to how much worse it is.

While the GTD might weigh as much as my F150 RCSB 4x4 (which is crazy), said truck won't run the Ring in under 7 minutes....
