GTD allocations should be this week

Than I'm quite impressed that hanging here on mustang6 I'm in such august company. Though all of the rest of us Mustang folks are very good company too! I need to keep my eye out here to see if I can see the GTD here in Indy. It is a racing and car town after all.

While I'll never sit behind the wheel of one, I'm still super pumped that Ford is making this car and wowed by the Nurburgring performance.

Don’t be surprised if it shows up at the Brickyard and/or Indy 500 races this year. It’s been making the rounds at various events. The Spirit of America edition is what came to the Auto Show here, but the other preproduction/press models have been showing up at events too. Not sure if it’s at the Daytona 500 this weekend, maybe some folks down there can confirm.

Don't hold your breath. I have asked the GTD concierge lots of questions and all I get is that when it's your turn, you'll have answers.

I have concerns and no answers. I've had more information working around dreamland.

I don't think this is a $400K car. Ill be writing the concierge by months end that I will defer to the next model year because I'll let someone else figure out the problems.

For those new to this, my GT500 can't finish a 30 min session at Daytona with the same engine and gas tank size as the GTD. So far, no news of a larger than 16 gal tank.

Regarding the weight. Ford submits the data in the application and represents it as being accurate and true. The EPA expects nothing less.

So the numbers you see that I posted are indeed legit. I think it fair to say that the curb weight number of 4,343 lbs is quite a bit more than many expected, including myself. Not gonna lie, this makes the Ring time even more impressive, given how rubenesque the GTD is.

I found a side by side of two charts with data on a '24 Mustang with a 5.0 liter engine and next to it data for the 2025 Mustang GTD. Ford is allowed to use some previous evaporative testing results from 2.3 and 5.0 engines in the application for the GTD and its 5.2 liter Predator engine. Anyway, direct from the test submission, 5.0 on left and 5.2 GTD on the right. The only tank size submitted for approval is the ubiquitous 16.1 gallon plastic tank.

DCT, that we know. But the mention of the "8", is that the number of forward speeds or a typo?

8-speed meaning a new variant of the GT500 7-speed?

It's correct. The transaxle in the GTD is an 8 speed DCT. It is entirely different than the 7 speed DCT in the GT500 and is Corvette based.

The 8 speed in the Vette is fantastic. Ford did a really good job with the 7 speed in the GT500 so I have no doubt the 8 speed they’re using is equally good, if not better.

Ya, but: In the Corvette version, the differential shares the fluid with the gears and clutch. So they’ve had some wear issues. As I recall, they have to change the filters often due to the fluid getting contaminated by the diff wear. Not sure if they have found another solution.

I’ll see if I can find out if there’s a better solution out there. I just got one over the holidays but it’s in storage for winter, not really as in tune with the C8 stuff yet. My brother in law has had his since 2021 and hasn’t had any issues that I’m aware of. I believe he just did filter changes right before he put his away for winter. I’ll ask if he noticed any unusual contamination

I believe it was due to initial break in. As I recall, they recommended early filter replacement, then filter and fluid flush every 3 years. Lots of whining on the blogs about the cost to do the full flush.

That is fine for most, but not enough for this vehicle at Daytona. Not to sound like a broken record, but the information was sent up to the engineers and I guess they decided not to do anything about it.

Ironic that the Grand Touring Daytona would have this problem on the track it was named for.
