I'm really disappointment, I can't afford one, but Ford should have made this weigh 3400 or less. At the current weight these are mostly museum pieces IMO

It's all good. I just tried to lay it out here but I'm getting messages about the legitimacy of what I posted being questioned. I'll track down random posts elsewhere and make it clear - she's a fatty and the scales don't lie.

:)

Trying to figure out why so much. I'm @ 4079 with 5/8ths tank of gas.
No factory tow hook or compressor in trunk, but aftermarket tow hook up front.

So lets say we ad 40 lbs of gas to get me a full tank, and 5 lbs back for compr and
solid steel tow hook (vs mine). Still 200+ lbs lighter?

60 lbs for larger wheels/tires? (and wheels not CF)
50 lbs for base S650 vs S550 chassis? (assuming entire GT is 100ish lbs)
30 lbs for added structure for rear tansaxle and "overhead" rear susp?

But didn't some thing some lighter?

At some time in future we will get a complete review of the GTD. Hopefully there will be an explanation for the weight. I’m sure nobody wanted that much weight.

What if I told you that Ford was sitting on that very car, well into development? The big shocker...plans are/were to offer both a DCT or the manual. Just less than 600hp. Program has a pretty cool name too that I shan't mention yet. With CAFE constraints out the window and nothing in between the Dark Horse and the GTD, my guess is that it is going to be approved...
Is it wrong to say that I'm more excited about this than the GTD?

5.2L? Something new? I've said this before but I wish Ford would mirror the Z06 and ZR1 motors. More breadcrumbs please.

I wish I had more answers but I don't. Suffice it to say, there's hope. I have no idea at this point where product planners are headed but I'd like to see more choice for enthusiasts. And I'd like to see something less than 4,000lbs.:)

It’s fairly obvious that it wouldn’t be a light car based upon what Ford and Multimatic have said about the car—or more precisely, what they haven’t said. If it was actually going to be significantly lighter than any other recent Mustang, they would’ve been crowing about it since the car’s debut.

I remember when SVTPerformance interviewed Jamal Hameedi (former Ford Performance chief engineer) when the GT350 was revealed in LA circa 2015 and the subject of weight reduction came up. He basically said, unless you start with a carbon fiber tubbed car, there aren’t any silver bullets for weight reduction in a street legal performance car.

In my opinion, peak NA track performance modern Mustang was the FP350S. Around 3,400 lb with seam welded body and full roll cage, and half the cost of the race car at that time (Mustang GT4).

Hopefully Ford Performance can recreate the same approach with the S650 in the future (Dark Horse S?)

The DHS that was announced with the other race cars was supposedly axed. It’s sad

I'd like to understand than in this forum people talking about buying a GTD, that I'm really in a Mustang forum where there are folks that are so far up there they are getting into the exclusive final list of "Approved" buyers of the GTD?

I'm reading this from Autoevolution " Ford will reportedly produce a limited run of only 1,000 GTDs and wants to make sure that no car flippers will be on the list of 1,000 customers. This means that every buyer will have to agree to the clause that forbids the resale of the vehicle, as reported by Ford Authority. " the article futher states that 7500 applications have been received, " Ford revealed that over 7,500 people applied to buy a Mustang GTD." and one of the rare folks is John Hennessey. If this is true color me impressed that someone here might be in that special 1000.

There’s a few here in the forum that got selected. Pretty cool. Saw the GTD at the Chicago Auto Show, it looks absolutely fantastic and it’s wider than it appears in photos. My jaw hit the floor, very similar reaction I had when I first saw a 2006 and 2021 Ford GT (the heritage edition that paid homage to the 1966 Daytona win by Ken Miles) in person. Turned this middle aged guy into a teen fanboy all over again. GTD has that kind of presence, at least to me.

Than I'm quite impressed that hanging here on mustang6 I'm in such august company. Though all of the rest of us Mustang folks are very good company too! I need to keep my eye out here to see if I can see the GTD here in Indy. It is a racing and car town after all.

While I'll never sit behind the wheel of one, I'm still super pumped that Ford is making this car and wowed by the Nurburgring performance.
