This is agree with, but for the guys that understand what's going on, explain to me how anyone is only getting13 14 mpg, they must be dogging it at every light and stop sign and on ramp and so on , right ? I cant understand that low a number.

Chris
Not me - I drive mine pretty normally, shifting around 2-3k RPM. But in dense urban areas, there are a lot of stop lights where you could be sitting for 2-3 minutes going nowhere, slow traffic on the highway where you are going 5-10 MPH for 20 minutes, and going up and down biggish hills. Average is around 14-15 MPG. I wish it was better, and I am hoping it will get better as the engine is more broken in, cause it is a bit painful to get that low mileage for a commuter car (not that I wasn't prepared for it or can't afford it).

Hopefully they decide to refine the coyote more around 2018 or so with DI. Maybe then we can see MPG like what the LT1's are seeing in the corvette. If they decide to do that maybe ill get a GT in 2018.

i was just thinking about that the other day, that this may be the last coyote without DI. sure DI will bring more HP/TQ to the table, and better MPG, but it comes with a lot of potential issues.

i still remember all of the issues the Audi/BMWs had when their engines went DI. tons of issues on HPFP (high pressure fuel pumps) and cam followers. not to mention the carbon buildup issues.

i guess it won't matter if you're gonna dump the car in 3-5 years time, but it's still a concern.

I normally get 14.5 unless on highway on a long trip, only done that 2 times, the rest is warming up to 150 head temp, and less then 6 miles at a time = 14 MPG at best easily. It will also get 29+ babied like a grandma going 48 to 60 and letting off the gas lightly. All on how one wants to drive. I normally don't care much about MPG in the 5.0

Exact scenario I'm in and with similar results.

I average about 17-18 in mixed driving. I've gotten 27 MPG on the highway, running 75 mph. Completely satisfied with the gas mileage.

I get 15-17 mpg because theres nothing but ridiculous amounts of traffic and hills, with no traffic, I get around 22 highway. Too many hills to get more.

I believe him. I've done it. When we moved from CA to ID 2nd tank was 29 and 3rd tank was 28+, just cruising up the freeway at 70+. AT with 3.15s, 8,000 miles. (2-3 mpg better than when it was newer).

I just got back from a highway trip. I was seeing readings averaging 23 mpg. I don't think that is too bad with 3.73 gears. To give you Texas folks an idea, I went from Dallas to Georgetown on a half tank. I didn't buy a Mustang GT for mileage but I sure won't complain!
