So I've put off asking this question, but here goes....How in the f$%& to you read/use that fuel economy gauge that's "within the last 30 minutes" with all the vertical bars on it? I give up.

I believe there are 6 bars, correct? The bars represent over the last 30 minutes, in intervals of 5 minutes, the average fuel economy over those 5 minutes.

Not to hijack, but have y'all noticed that the digital mpg is exactly 1 mpg MORE than actual consumption?

I see .9 mpg difference. So yes.

For some reason, six doesn't seem right, but wouldn't swear to it. Guess I need to go back and look, LOL. Regardless of the number of bars, how do you read it? Left to right, right to left, colors, etc?? I watched it for 30+ minutes the other day and it didn't do anything that made any logic to me at all.

I believe the new 5-minute bar appear on the left, and push the existing bars to the right.

I usually keep my car on G-force so I will need to go back and check.

Yep! I'm data-obsessed. I've kept a spreadsheet of fuel mileage for my vehicles for a long time. For the GT350 it shows actual mileage vs. the computer-calculated mileage tank by tank. While I won't say it's exactly 1 mpg off, over time it is in error by about 1 mpg.

Here's the chart. Note the trendlines are parallel and going downward. Something about my right foot getting heavier, I guess....

MPG trends - I get about 17 in my daily commute and single digits at the track, so if you do any track days I'm sure it will have a big impact.

I've also noticed better fuel economy when it's colder outside and I'm traction limited.

I've never owned a car I cared less about fuel economy with. I don't bother checking at all.

I will say it has an incredible ability to display the low fuel light almost every time I get into it.

I think I'm averaging like 13 mpg driving to work. Hurray.

Also, the bar graph is 5 bars over 30 minutes, works out to 6 minutes per bar. I haven't timed it, I don't care that much. Each bar shows you your average for that time period. That's it.

From a fuel economy standpoint, I completely agree. However, fuel mileage (like a sudden drop off) for a given driving condition can be an indicator of a problem. Have used that for troubleshooting before...car runs great, no CEL, fuel mileage dropped off ~5 mpg during repeatable conditions. Just a thought.

I never have time to look down at the gauge since I'm usually busy watching for gas stations to stop at.

Have no idea what these "bars" are, I haven't seen that. But I have confirmed that when the gauge says "O miles to empty" there's 1 gallon left!
That is not true after I go to the track the miles to empty is horribly off.
