I bought a GT500 in '08 and the "transport mode", IIRCC, was not a switch that the dealer could flip off but rather the car had to go through "x" amount of start/stop cycles or "x" amount of continuous miles driven. I don't recall the exact numbers of cycles or miles but in my case, I picked it up with 3.4 miles and it took roughly another 30 miles of continuous driving before it would make enough boost to reach the stated 500 HP. I could tell right away when it came out of

That was 08. This is 2015. Your information is irrelevant. The transport mode must be turned off by the dealer. No one can hot rod it between factory and dealer.

As I said. Ain't shit you can do about miles. Once it arrives, all you can do is walk away and wait on another one.

Seems like you are a little worked up here with the rest of us just trying to help each other out with a few simple tips on receiving our GT350's?

With the amount of money that we have to put out for these great cars let alone how much time and effort is takes to secure on why would we not ask our dealerships to not have the detailer/gas jockey driver to not take them for a joy ride or add extra miles trying to locate a gas station?

Secondly do you really think that in the hands of one of these individuals that they would not flog the crap out of one of our brand new Shelby's?

Once the dealership has taken the car out of "Transport Mode" any individual at the dealership level can drive them anyway that they want?
I can tell you first hand that I have been a victim of this situation so why not try to protect our investment?

If the GT350 or GT350R is just a car to you I certainly respect your opinion but to many of us Mustang and Shelby enthusiasts our upcoming Shelby GT350's are much more than just a car.

Wait wait wait, this whole topic is about "expected miles at delivery;" not the gas jocky taking it out on a joy ride or PDI polishing. Everyone is going into a lot of hypothetical worst case scenarios

Of course don't let the dealership drive it other from the truck to the spot it waits for you in. If you want to be there when the truck arrives I've never heard of a dealership saying no. I've never heard a dealership say they must take it off the lot for gas or otherwise if you say not to. Your salesman will take it from the truck and put a piece of paper or sticker on the window to not drive it anywhere.

The point was at the factory they may put test miles on these unlike the regular Mustang so it's not something you can prevent. But the harsh reality is what can you really do if they ignore your request at the dealership? Not too much there aren't others on the lot to take instead of order a new one if there are no allocations.

But I haven't heard of any dealerships doing line lock before any of us picked up our cars or anything noticeably abusive (in for service it totally different). It would be pretty apparent to anyone with eyes if it's been burned out or excessive miles on it (over 10-20 but again, no idea if Ford does extra testing on the GT350 that they dont do on the regular Mustangs). It's all about your relationship with your dealer; mine honored all my requests since I know my salesman personlly and actually did a pretty fantastic job detailing my GT considering it's black too; I only had to buff out one microscratch really that was probably more a road dirt scuff taking it home. I put my own first tank in with the salesman in the passenger seat since the detailing station was a block or 2 away.

Generally, the dealership doesn't drive it there, the truck driver does.

Ahh ok but those guys drive WAY more expensive (and powerful) cars than a $50k GT350 and have huge insurance policies so I wouldn't be too worried. Theyre way more careful with the cars then anyone at the dealership is.

As we're both saying nothing you can do but trust your dealer and tell them dont touch it once it's parked, but otherwise not much you can do. There won't be another on the lot to trade with or to just order another like a regular Mustang.

I would suggest that you and I are possibly interpreting this mileage delivery topic somewhat differently?

"what mileage should we expect upon delivery" to me means what is the mileage on the odometer when I as the customer take delivery of my car regardless of what happens between Flat Rock the dealership and all possible miles put on my car after it arrives at the dealership and I take delivery as the customer?

In any event we all have different points of view and by expressing our different positions and ideas hopefully some of the issues brought up here will help some of the members on this forum?

Lastly, to your point about having the dealership detail a black car or any color car for that matter, just for the very reason that you have pointed out I will not take the chance of allowing the dealership to detail my cars prior to delivery as it is so easy as we all know to have some grit, sand or small gravel in the wash cloth of drying towel during the cleaning/detailing process thus small paint scratches and blemishes come into play on our cars which could have been totally prevented. Yes I am anal when it comes to keeping factory paint in perfect condition!

Thanks for bringing up this point. I am sure that this same concern that we both have will have many members on this forum thinking about what direction they will take when it comes to the dealership detailing their car prior to taking delivery?

:thumbsup::thumbsup:

I'm ordinarily not overly prescriptive with this type of thing, but I'm going to be slightly more anal than usual. Im paying a dealer markup, it's small compared to what I've seen elsewhere, but if I'm paying a premium, I'm going to get this delivered the way I want it. I think the dealership should understand that. No front plate bracket, no test starts/drives, and I would like to be there when it's delivered. I think that is a small and fair set of requests.

Not worried about mileage, just don't want them to put any dealership stickers, lisence plate frames on the front, or any of that sort of stuff on the car.

This. With a slight regard for miles. I don't want it touched by anyone at the dealership. I plan to be there when it arrives, and just like my children, I will watch it closely until I take it home.

First thing is; if its not important to you it will not be important to the dealer. The porter or what ever the detail-er is called now-a-days does not give a rats ass about your car...if no one is around he will have his buddy film (on his iPhone) him doing a burn out and post it on YOUTUBE, if do not this this happen, then go watch youtube and then get back to me. I for one am lucky enough to have a car coming so close to home...I will be there when the car is coming off of the truck..I will be there when the PDI is done, and that's is where they, are done with my car..I will put my own gas in it and detail it my self....

Good luck? I used to work for a Dealer 25 years ago. I will be the 1st to tell you that some salesman and especially the personal in the back could give two poops about your investment. I've seen it all with high performance vehicles being trashed b4 they are sold or delivered to the customer. I'm not saying this happens all the time, but it does happen!

So as a consumer, I highly recommend that you give a poop or you may be very unhappy when you take delivery or possibly down the road when something is wrong with it.

I will inspect the car for any damage or build defects before accepting it. It comes with a warranty, so not worried about it breaking.

Just seems folks get all caught up in the virginity of the car. My car buying habits are different, in that I generally get a new car every 12-18 months.

At my stage in life, no car is an investment, it is a sunk cost. I will drive it as I please and will not worry about weather or rock chips. Just want it for the sheer joy of driving a well crafted machine.......Steve

I respect that. My car isn't going to be a daily driver. It's going to sit in the garage with a cover on it. And only come out when there is no chance of rain in 500 hundred nautical miles. LOL!

This car to me is a long term investment that hopefully will be my children's car when I'm gone.

Mine won't be daily driver, it is a toy, I will enjoy to the fullest.
I will take very good care of it, not worried about investment part of it,
But will be damned anyone is going to beat the crap out of it, before I get it:)

I'm very anal about my cars, especially my Mustangs/high end stuff. For instance, in my F150, I almost never lock my blinker on, unless I'm stopped for a long period of time. I don't want the multi function switch to wear out and be loose in the column. I hate that. I also don't slide out of the seat when I get out. I get up, then out, to not tear up the side bolster of the seat. Another pet peeve of mine. My vehicles are usually clean, and I hate the handprints when people just grab the edge of the door and shut it. It's known in my household to use the door handle to shut the door. I dunno, guess I have OCD. But I like my stuff clean and presentable at all times, or most of it!
I did a complete service and detail on a customers Porsche one time, I spent the better part of a day using a claybar to remove gray paint (Owner tells me they were painting the overpasses the day he bought it) Then polishing/buffing this car. When I had the wheels off I cleaned the inside of the rims/chassis, EVERYTHING. The car looked showroom new when I was done. So when it was getting picked up, the owner throws the paperwork right on the roof of the car with the keys, and goes to sign the invoice there. I almost shit myself. I wouldn't put anything on the top of my in-need-of-paint fox body, and he just throws them on top of this 100k+ Porsche. lol.
To each their own I guess.
