Thinking of alternating Shell Vpower fill up with Costco Gas (due to extra additives beyond the Costco gas) to keep the gunk out. Anyone using any additives for maintenance? I can see that a good catch can help significantly but doesn't it void the warranty? Come to think of it, I think the ford manual specifically mentions that adding additives will void the warranty so Sea foam may be a problem down the road if I use it.

On a side note, I am doing a non scientific experiment with my 8 year old untreated RAM 1500. Over the last year I can never seem to get better MPG above 16 (mixed driving) so I'm dumping 2 canisters of the Sea foam product in the tank to see if anything happens. If the MPG goes up I will let you all know.

Won't make any difference. Gasoline is a detergent itself, it's not necessary to add anything more.

It's just marketing, don't let it get to you.

Where and when you get your gas, is more important than the brand label on it.

Personally, I prefer a station that sells "Top Tier " gasoline regardless of brand name.

You don't say why you alternate between Costco and Shell. If it's for a cost savings then adding additives would seem to negate any savings.

Costco sells Top Tier gas and claims to put 5 times the government required additives in their fuel.

I most use Kroger for filling up. They sell Top Tier, are almost always the least expensive in the area, are super busy so the fuel is always fresh and since we shop there we get the additional discount for that.

Once you said seafoam I knew you weren't serious. That's the biggest snake oil ever sold

Every gas station out here meets top tier requirements but most still have shit gas. I choose places that sell gas that keeps my knock sensors happy.

The power of suggestion is pretty potent. It's like the urge to scratch your head when you found out you were near a person who has lice--or when you tell yourself you are one good looking dude when you look at the mirror. Same goes with these products. I just drove the truck and it 'feels' quieter. I've always thought that newer gasoline products have detergents added already. Shell V power claims to have 'more' detergents than other top tiers. My real barometer is the mpg on the next regular full tank. I will post results in a couple of weeks if anything relevant happens. After that tank, I will consider cleaning the KN air filter.

I wanted to first find out if anybody is using any additives as a regular regimen for maintenance. Clean engine=higher mpg postulate. Im after a way to keep the engine clean with the least amount of effort and cost.

I really like project farm. He tests everything.
In this case v power vs cheap fuel.

He also tested. Ceratec and motorkote (which is superior than ceratec)
And many other stuff
According to him v power does clean better than cheap gas.
But v POWER is bot that different than TOP TIER gas.
Costco is top tier. So you are good. Just match the octane requested.

100% accurate^. It’s a solvent. Additives are nothing but placebo and snake oil.

Use a Top Tier fuel and dump a can of SeaFoam/Techron/MaxClean at each oil change and you'll be fine.

https://www.toptiergas.com/

EDIT: For clarity, put fuel additives (SeaFoam/Techron/MaxClean) in your FUEL TANK, not in your crankcase!

Are you sure about that? I can most definitely tell you that Kroger does not sell Top Tier fuel in my area. If your area is different then I think that's fantastic.
