I have started to polish my black car, did the roof and the trunk and I feel I could do better, as there are swirls left.

Was wondering what are your experiences with polishing?

I got a 6 inch DA cordless polisher, set it at 2500-3500 rpm and used Turtlewax black polish and Meguiers mirror glaze 5/10 cut Also used a finish pad.

Now I am switching to Sonax Perfect Finish and then got a pad set and will be using mid cut pad and building muscle memory to press the polisher 10-15lb

You can go a little higher on the RPM’s. 4-4.5k is ok just keep it moving. About an inch or two per second. Also make sure you’re not using too much polish, that will limit the amount of work the pad will do. 3 pea sized drops should be plenty to do a 3’x3’ section. Clean your pad every other section to prevent polish build up on the pad. Two to three passes per section is my usual, especially with a one step or a finishing polish. Should get everything nice and clear and not remove too much clear coat (that’s what polishing is, removing clear coat to level it out).

The cut pad and compound will leave a haze, so you will need to finish it out. Perfect Finish is a good polish and use a light polish pad. Can also use a UroFiber 50/50 pad. One of my faves.

On Ford paint, Perfect Finish on a medium foam pad will take you a long way. Being a diminishing polish, just be sure to work it long enough so that it breaks down and finishes out nicely.

Once you get it swirl free, try Honda Pro Polish. It's a spray on product that I use on all the bikes after polishing. I also use it on my truck since I do run it through car washes. It's super easy to use and doesn't turn the black plastic parts white.

The S550 is a bit of a bitch to polish compared to other cars i've had, especially due to all the curved panels which will cause your DA polisher to stall. You'll need smaller polishing pads for a lot of the bodywork imo so buy a whole bunch of different sizes aside from the usual 5" pads. I did a half assed job since it was a brand new car anyway and i just wanted to throw my ceramic coating on there, but in a few years i might take more time. Also the clear coat Ford uses is a bit on the harder side especially if you're used to Japanese cars, so it takes more work to polish out the scratches.

We just did a friends 2015 Black challenger and it turned out great considering the car was never protected before. I used perfect finish and finished it with Armour Quartz which was recommend here and its looks better then new by far.
He had a lot of water spots so we did use a water spot remover before polishing
