They can’t produce anything cheap because everything is an SUV or truck…. I mean seriously speaking, how many different pickup trucks and sizes of such does one Manufacturer REALLY need? It was dumb to get rid of all cars except for the Mustang…. The Asian/Euros are kicking Ford in the rear because nearly all of them still produce cars along with their SUV lines.

People want selection and they’ll go and buy where that selection is…. If all your dealership has is SUV’s/Trucks and practically no car line, sales are eventually going to tank.
My wife is really upset, she loves her Lincolns but said that Lincoln has abandoned her. She doesn't want an SUV or truck and for some reason Lincoln has decided that they are a truck company now. So if she replaces her car she is forced to look at a Cadillac or and Audi. She would like to stay with Lincoln but there is nothing that they offer for her.

I'm calling it now. The vehicle will be the new Thunderbird. my prediction is based solely on the fact I like the word "Thunderbird"😂
My vote on the new name should be "ThunderCougarFalconBird"

^This. I'm a huge Lincoln fan, and was really disappointed they stopped making cars. Too bad Lincoln didn't have an existing platform they could have worked from to produce a new car. Maybe even a replacement for the Mark VIII...

Because that's all there is to buy. US made all you have is Cadillac and Charger.
Ther is no more 20K vehicles left in the US. Fords cheapest entry is an SUV they are killing.

If you want AWD in a car? You have to buy a top end trim, luxury or Subaru... or this small SUV we have over here....

Want an interesting color? Brands only offer them on the SUV's and Dealers only stock the SUV's in anything that's not gray scale.

This isn't what the "market wants" it's what companies want because it's cheaper for them to produce and put out.

its like how manuals died off. It's just easier for dealers to fill lots of automatics because they know 90% of people will just "settle" for an automatic even if they really don't want one because they don't have to time or money to order a car and wait around.

I used to work for GM's advertising agency, I'm well aware it's ALL market manipulation. They don't really care what the market wants they care about how to PUSH the market into what they want.
I wasn't saying you were wrong or anything. I was just conversat'in. FYI.

I too think market manipulation is a factor or variable Sometimes. But not all the time. Buyers can absolutely be manipulated but only to a point I think. On the other hand The auto industry is filled with grave yards of failed vehicles and brands they tried to push on people only to get out right rejected.

Stalantis wanted me to think the Charger EV was a great idea. They fooled about 3 people the rest said get F**kd 😂... Maybe if they add Corinthian leather though it will all work out (now that was effective market manipulation back in the day)

My uncle worked for a Chrysler plant when I was a kid. I loved his Cordoba with Corinthian leather! Absolutely loved it!

That's the problem. For some reason, all the automakers focus on trucks and SUVs thinking that's what the consumers want. Chrysler only has the Charger, Ford Mustang and Chevy the Corvette. That's it for cars. I suspect at some point they may return to cars again, but not betting on it. At least Toyota and Honda still has car models and haven't gone ga-ga for SUV/trucks.

Guys, read up on how the government CAFE mileage requirements work. Sedans get penalized based on their overall footprint so a “decent” sedan that we’d want to drive (think Mercedes E or S Class size) means a manufacturer will have to sell many little cars to offset each bigger car to get their CAFE average up. And since most Americans don’t like tiny cars US manufacturers stopped making them…which means they had nothing to counter the large sedans we WOULD buy. And the silly part of the government regulations was that the same “footprint” fuel economy standards DON’T apply to SUVs or trucks! So manufacturers were stuck. Make SUVs & Trucks or go out of business. Sucks when governments put their fingers on the scale instead of letting the market decide what people want to drive. Gas is already heavily taxed…if you buy a vehicle that doesn’t get good gas mileage you’re already heavily penalized…government didn’t need to get involved.

I don't personally think an EV version of the Charger was a bad idea, i think that not initially planning an ICE version was. I have a feeling that they kind of shot themselves in the foot as unlike Ford they had ZERO hybrid, fuel efficient i4, or other EV's already to offset the large amount of V8's they sold and their parent company got tired of paying EPA fines for it.

Outside of the Charger/Challenger (that were initially heavily MB supported) they haven't had a winning car since the Neon They didn't even bother to try to do a 2nd gen Avenger to address the issues people had with that, or to really properly support the DART after its initial release. It's like Dodge's engineering and Marketing just have 0 idea of how to do anything that's not a large heavy car that boils down to "V8 go Brrr!" then target the crappy credit Nissan demographic. The Charger is the new "Nissan Blackxima", it's pathetic that people were cross shopping a Chrysler 200 and an Altima because of how heavily the 200 was discounted, and still picked the Altima. The fact it had an option for 295HP and AWD went under most people's radar.

1000% agree on it being the driver. My brother has a 2009 Z06 that dyno'd 587hp yesterday. He brought it to Hallett last summer. I have been telling him about my "disappointments" in Corvettes at the track. He kept saying they are hard to drive. We swapped cars one session and I didn't feel anything extremely difficult about it. A ton of drivers are afraid of apexes and rumble strips.

I do need to make it to COTA this coming year! I just f-ing hate the drive in between Ft Worth and Austin.
Feb event with Chin at CotA. But it's probably full by now.

If they brought back the Escort kept it the same size as a Civic, maybe a tiny bit smaller, gave it the Mavrick Hybrid drivetrain, and optional AWD I'd pick up one for a daily TOMORROW.

Heck could even give it the 2.0T and AWD for an Escort ST. It would be better than the Si, a solid GTI competitor and likely a tune/handling package away from knocking on the door of the Golf R, Civic Type-R, and Elantra N.

I'd have liked a 2door coupe/convertible based on the last SHO to have been called Thunderbird. Kinda Mustang like but also much more GT than sports car. Kind of more Audi S5 coupe competitor. I also think that Thunderbird fits the Mach-e better than Mustang does.
