Yep. A new Mustang spec'd like my '15 is over $60K as you say. No thanks.

On the bold, not to mention everything they build keeps getting bigger. Bought the wife a new Escape ST-Line earlier this year, and word on the street says the Escape is dead. Wife doesn't want (or need) anything bigger, and the daily driver garage is packed enough with the Escape and my F150 crammed into it.

Just recently we had the discussion that maybe we should have bought a GTI instead since it's the right size, just no AWD. Argh.

Anyway, back to unattainable dream cars.....
Dude.....the GTI is (in my opinion) the perfect car. Small enough on the outside to be maneuverable, big enough on the inside to hold a ton of stuff, power:weight to make it a blast to drive, the LSD makes you forget you are in a FWD car, the DSG is amazing and you won't regret not getting the 3rd pedal. My 2019 is a beast. I have an E85 tune, TCU tune, IC, DP, and some brake upgrades. My PR at Hallett in my Mach 1 is a 1:26.05. It is a 1:26.3 in my GTI. Car is amazing. Reliable and easy to work on too. I am coming up on 100k miles and the only thing I have had to replace is the alternator. Check out my video in post #18 in this thread.

That's the driver, not the car though

Turn off all nannies, keep ABS, good to go!
1000% agree on it being the driver. My brother has a 2009 Z06 that dyno'd 587hp yesterday. He brought it to Hallett last summer. I have been telling him about my "disappointments" in Corvettes at the track. He kept saying they are hard to drive. We swapped cars one session and I didn't feel anything extremely difficult about it. A ton of drivers are afraid of apexes and rumble strips.

I do need to make it to COTA this coming year! I just f-ing hate the drive in between Ft Worth and Austin.

The T-Bird was a two door, two seater for three years before ballooning to appeal to more people. So I hope they don't use that name. Their retro revival was short lived too.

A Corvette competitor should be called GT. Make it look something like the 2004-06 version with the base car using parts from the Mustang to keep costs down. To really compete they need to have a strategy for sustained sales. Using the GT name gives brand recognition and if priced near the Corvette could steal some customers who've owned Corvettes but couldn't afford a GT or didn't have the social media presence.

If this a short run of cars aimed at going faster around the track than a Vette then I don't consider this a real effort to compete. I'd love to see the introduction of a Ford GT with a Coyote 5.0 and that new Tremec manual trans axle as an option. Competing with Corvette at each trim level.

Id like to see the "Falcon" name resurrected. It carries a level of prestige and is a cool animal. I could see it having some horsepower behind it. But I agree with Mags1, it won't be a variation of the Mustang, it will be a whole new animal, and rightly so..

I think ford needs a new nameplate, something even nastier than dark horse or mustang or GT, Something more sinister sounding, like a top secret government type name

Frankly ZR1-X sounds like it was created in a lab, like skunkworks project. It just sounds so cool

Isn’t the GTD already a corvette killer?

It is yes, but it's a $400K car. From what I understand very much how Chevy would offer the Camaro and the Vette. Ford is looking to do something similiar.

I mean, which corvette are they trying to kill? The ZR1 or an LT 1 stingray? Those are two wildly different pursuits

I have 2 project codenames but I probably shouldn’t put them online first. No idea what they are gonna become though also
Saucony or Asics would be great codenames for taking on the New Balance wearing Corvette geekdicks! :giggle:

yea I suppose "corvette killer" isn't quite the best moniker for this potential vehicle. Perhaps best to say that allegedly ford is working on a vehicle that is a "tier Up" from the Mustang, that is not a GTD or a Shelby.
