Yeah I'm not buying this at all. We just don't know if the Gen 3's lubrication system is meant to handle 5w50 like the GT350 or Boss. Full synthetic Motorcraft 5w20 made my tick disappear (no Ceratec) so that's what I shall stick with :like:

My dealer provided the first three oil changes free. I asked them to please use 5w30 instead of 5w20 and offered to pay any difference. As far as I know they did what I requested, at no extra cost and shown on the reciept was the 5w 30. My engine has ran without any tick at all. I did my own oil change this past weekend and used my standard 5w30 mobil 1.

I am really curious if it is official or not.

Bill really doesn't explain the multi-viscosity rating very well (time 0:38 to 1:00) ... pretty far off actually. Oil never gets thicker when it warms up.
His content isn't very good imo

Wonder if this an 18+ thing or coyote 5.0 in general. If true seems oddly strange timing since that tick ssm just came out. Wonder if Ford is trying to hush these engines up. I had my oil changed at dealer about three days prior to the ssm being released and 5w20 was filled. The price went up from $58 to $76.

For N/A, Iā€™m staying 5w-20 full synthetic with my ā€œcertainā€ additive I use. Unless Ford sends a directive to change the oil weight. Doubt that happens on non boosted cars.

How long have you been running the 5w20 full synthetic? And how bad was your tick before?
Since November. My tick wasnā€™t bad at all before. Just heard it occasionally after cold start.

If it's a directive from Ford to their dealerships, then there should be a Ford SSM or TSB about going to 5W-50 instead of the manual recommended 5W-20. If there is official documentation, the maybe @Cobra Jet will post it up when it becomes available.
Nothing official (yet). Iā€™m not sure where or who said the oil weight change has been rolled out by Ford (which would come from the Engineering Team) - but so far, thereā€™s nothing in print for the Mustang (or F150) Coyote 5.0 for years 2018/19 stating of such a change.

IF there is a change, that would also require a supplemental revision to the 2018/19 Ownerā€™s manuals too. They canā€™t just release a SSM/TSB on something like that and not update the owners manual (because then you would have folks filling with wrong oil weight, IF the recommended change requires a heavier weighted oil).

Itā€™s quite possible there is internal verbal discussions and those have been ā€œwhispered down the laneā€, but no official doc is out for release yet. Maybe itā€™s going through an approval stage and will be available soon.

I also just checked the online 2019 Ford Mustang Owners Manual. There are (2) pages of oil viscosities listed. As can be seen by the snipped image below from page 299, 5w50 IS an oil listed, but is noted for ā€œTrack Useā€.

See image and where I highlighted.

So is this just another ā€œclick bait You Tube make-some-moneyā€ vid that was posted to get everyone thinking there is some directive from Ford????

Sure itā€™s in the ownerā€™s manual, but itā€™s not listed as being the oil to use for DAILY use. Whether thereā€™s any detrimental effects from running that viscosity daily, I have no clue. So Iā€™d say use it at your own discretion and donā€™t take YT vids as gospel....

Unless an official doc comes directly from Ford....

My 2016 seems to really like 5W30 or 5W40. I haven't put 5W20 in the thing for ages.
Only for the winter here. Fresh Redline 5W30 will go in around April/May.

Iā€™m about to do first change in my ā€˜18 GT at 3-400 miles. Was gonna use the Castrol 5-20 Ful Synthetic.
Now Iā€™m not so sure. Thoughts?
