OK, here's a real HEAD SCRATCHER!!! This is getting a bit ridiculous, but... I came across this new vid. So, is there something we really need to know? Full synthetics do tend to run a little thin, so is Ford now actually recommending 5w50 full synthetic for the infamous engine tick? Apparently the dealer put this stuff in Street707's Mustang.

Question is...Who besides Motorcraft and Mobil1 makes an affordable high end 5w50 oil? I see Ravenol does, but it's $60/jug. You could probably use a Mobil 1 full synthetic filter and go 10,000 miles with this stuff.

Another option, though more pricey.

I subscribe to him too and was wondering. I have also heard that but not verified.

Whipple and Roush recommend 5W50 now for the 18+ mustangs.

^^^ You're right. In fact, in CJPP's video at 3:20, he says 5w20, but that when he got a Roush Supercharger installed on his 2018, they recommend 5w50. I really don't understand that. It's not like they changed out all the bearings or crankshaft on the bottom end.

This is really irritating.

If it's a directive from Ford to their dealerships, then there should be a Ford SSM or TSB about going to 5W-50 instead of the manual recommended 5W-20. If there is official documentation, the maybe @Cobra Jet will post it up when it becomes available.

Because Roush knows the engine will be taking way more stress in the bearings, etc with added HP. Same as Ford specifying 5W-50 for GT500s, BOSS 302s (which isn't far off from a 2015+ Coyote), etc.

Ford's previous spec of 5W-50 for the BOSS 302 and now for the Coyote (if that's really an official directive from Ford) makes sense because they are essentially the same engines. If Ford is indeed doing this I guess they don't care about getting CAFE credits anymore for Mustangs.

So, the Motorcraft Syn 5W50 is known to shear down quite significantly and quickly, so the point where the thicker 5W30s and avg viscosity 5W40s would be a better match. Just an FYI.

First gen coyotes with track packs were factory filled with 50w50. They seem to go back and forth, so I wouldn't be surprised if they are back to recommending it.

I can't help but think that running full syn 5w30 with a dash of Ceratec is more than enough for the average spirited driver with an NA setup.

But hey, if it's true, I may try something like the Ravenol 5w50 with a 10,000 mile filter, and try annual oil changes.

I didn't hear him mention how his engine sounded and ran on the Motorcraft 5W-50 compared to the former 5W-20 used in his engine before the oil was changed.

Update - went and looked at his YouTube comments. He said it still ticks with 5W-50.
