I have one just like that one in the Amazon link. If it fits the filter they work great ! If you can't get your ratchet wrench in a good enough position to turn it, just add a long extension.

Giant pliers and a screw driver, will work on your farm tractor. There is not room for the giant pliers. Have you ever change an oil filter on the new Mustangs ?

yeah lefty loosey it just seems like its welded on. autozone had nothing i ordered the amazon thing that is coming tomorrow. the issue with the strap is i cant get it around the filter since its recessed a bit and the strap handle blocks it.

Don't do it wasting your time, just get the Pennzoil and be done with it. I say Pennzoil cause it is the only one I've found singularly sized

I have been down this road, take my word for it.

Done
Great suggestion but up this way (NJ/PA) area we don't have any O'Reillys... just NAPA, Autozone, Advance Auto, Pep Boys or WalMart.

If he's using an oil filter that is 78mm and 14 flutes, yes that Penzoil cap will work great. He might be able to find the equivalent in a different brand (or just order one online).

I use a filter cap socket as well; have a few different ones collected over the years.

The only other way to removing a stuck filter is to get the filter plier wrench with the teeth or simply enough, drive a screwdriver through it and turn. Only use this as last recourse though....

Did some additional searching, fmi. If other brands were made the made the same. And you're correct they are out there, hopefully the OP got one.

Trying to help the guy not get himself in a situation that would just complicate things.

Half-assed maintenance practices are how some roll. I will call that out when I read that kind of crap. It serves no purpose for a new person that wants to put forth the effort. Has the drive to attempt new things, we want them to be successful.

Have I punch a hole in an oil filter to remove it ... sure have.

Would I suggest it to a newbe hell no, that's as you mention a last resort. I can count one 1 hand how many times I've used it over the years, could be 2 fingers if I think about it.

Cheers,
Pep
