Perhaps because I'm in Florida? It has been raining and humid.

Great News

Drewzh, Way to go. Glad you got the repair made. You were very fortunate to have enough stud left to Tig a new one in it's place.

Thanks. Yeah totally, I'm hoping the other guys can fix in a similar way. It's quite a clean fix.

One big issue with using a torque wrench on these bolts is that they're essentially lubricated as they're painted black. I learned shortly after my incident that you should never use a torque wrench on a bolt that's in any way lubricated as it'll stop the bolt from 'catching' as it'll slide, rather than 'grab'.

I also had an email afterward from Steeda who said that they'd actually recommend hand tightening the bolts rather than using a torque wrench, but included values anyway, as apparently, people insisted on them?

I was waiting for this to come out sooner or later.

It might well be better to torque these particular fasteners with an old-fashioned beam-style inch*lb torque wrench, where there's no 'click' to inadvertently overshoot.

I've been too busy with work to find a shop willing to do the work. Hopefully I can find someone this week.

I bet you could use a threaded sleeve and some Locktite to splice a short threaded section of an M6 bolt on with. Might need a washer with an oversize hole if the sleeve ends up not sitting below the surface shown.

Tig welding a new thread on is apparently really easy and you appear to have enough thread left to do this. It literally took my friend less than a minute and he said it was an easy job with little risk. I'd try and find a metal working shop rather than a garage.

So he didn't need to even take the hood off?

I stopped by one welding shop at lunch. They said they didn't to tig welding but they gave me a recommendation.

Nope, I had a few mm sticking out proud of the bracket and he just tig welded it in place.
