I've had my Mach 1 for a few years now, have driven about 7500 miles, car runs great.

But I've noticed since I've had it, that after even a short drive of say 50 miles, the rear of the car is covered with lots of black dots, which is, for want of a better word, soot from the exhaust.

Attached is a pic of a small section of the rear showing the soot. I ran my finger through the middle to show what a cleaner part looks like.

I did mention this to a Ford mechanic a while back, and they said this is the way it is, as they said they run "rich", and hence create this sort of exhaust emissions.

Do others see the same ?

If so, ever found way to stop this ?

I can say that I have not seen this, even after a spirited drive. The car is ceramic coated but I doubt that makes a difference on exhaust collection. How do the exhaust tips look? Mine stay pretty clean, do you think it might be a fuel issue?

the inside of the inner exhaust tips on each side, do tend to end up covered in black soot as well

GDI engines do release soot, so it's not unheard of. Does your car burn any oil?

The exhaust on these cars gets filled with soot/carbon over time, so I'm pretty sure this is normal but most people probably never notice it if they clean their vehicle and exhaust tips regularly.

A 2022 engine running "RICH" on an OEM tune ? 🤔
Does your MACH 1 have Gasoline Particulate Filters installed on the exhaust system ?
Do you have a aftermarket performance tune ?

I think you might have missed the question.

'Euros' (or exports) got the GPF's with the 2018 facelift.

What I don't know (and what I think was being asked) is do the AU cars get the euro exhausts, with the GPF's as standard from Ford ?

As a point reference, I'm a UK euro (with GPF's) and here's the inside of my mufflers at 2.5K :

My guess,
Being at only 7500 miles what you have is break-in airborne particles from the brakes, tires and possible road debris attaching to the rear bumper area by way of how the air flow attaches itself to the back of the car.

Personally I don’t see Ford making two different RHD exhaust systems for the same platform. That’s only a guess and one of two reasons why I asked the question regarding GPF’s.

They are all made at the same plant in Kentucky. I wouldn't be shocked if they did. Somehow Google is absolute garbage at finding the correct answer LOL
