Engine rattle

So I have a rattle coming from passenger side engine compartment. Engine is quit as a mouse at idle and when reving the engine to any rpm. However, when driving I’m hearing a rattle starting around 3,000 rpm. It’s getting louder. A couple months ago I did a pull red lined 4th and like a moron went back into third not 5th. Shortly after I would hear a slight rattle the it slowly got louder trans was shifting funny ect….. ok I fucked up the trans mt82. So ok I replaced the trans stage 2 calimer and McLeod twin disc. Also had some cams, headers, intake manifold, and injectors installed. Got the car back still heard the rattle. Just picked it up from getting dyno’d and fully tuned after clutch break in. Now the noise is even louder. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Any possible way to record video of the sound at the speed/rpm you’re experiencing it?

I’d check the following:

Check the trans block spacer plate, it’s a common issue across the S550 and F150 platform:

Check the emergency brake cable and attaching assembly found under the driver side trans tunnel. This has been a known source of metallic rattle as well and is hard to replicate unless in a certain RPM range. The cable is loose and raps against the trans tunnel under certain conditions OR could be touching exhaust mid pipe. How to adjust the cable and assembly:

If looking at both the e-brake and spacer plate from under the car, yes visually they will look “fine”, but take a closer look to make sure both are not a source of the rattle.

Check the driveshaft center support bearing assembly. There is a small aluminum plate attached to the bottom of it which comes loose and rattles - see this thread:

Also check the exhaust piping from front to back to make sure the piping is not coming in contact with the body (trans tunnel, trans mount, etc) and check all clamps too to also make sure those are secure and not rubbing on anything.

That’s what im worried about. The car runs great. Did well on the dyno. The shop knew about the noise and investigated, all signs were to trans. If it was the motor wouldn’t I hear something at all times? At idle or stationary reving the engine is damn near silent when it comes to and noises.

You can hear it at the very beginning and again closer to the end. I’ve disco verde it only makes the sound between 3,000 and 4,000 rpm. After 4 it goes away

I had a rattle bone stock except a catch can. Turns out the can was touching the engine and causing a racket between 2k and 3500. Adjusted its placement and the rattle is gone.

I listened and couldn’t hear it. Maybe get someone to rev the car and take it near the engine. You could have hurt something but you won’t know till something gives or you have it taken apart. Oh the other question. Does the noice come happen under load or can you hear it from a rev also?

I see this thread roughly 5 months old, is it still rattling? Asking because I just had one installed Thursday and I believe I noticed something around 3000 rpm, when I'm in 3rd gear, but my rpm is below 2200 maybe, and I'm accelerating in 3rd gear and I hear something strange. I'm driving the car very gingerly and trying to get these "clutch cycles" in. I'm normally in the high rpms going through the gearbox

what Mcleod did you get? I'm assuming the RTX. Did you break it in with traction control off, did you have the flywheel and new clutch assembly balanced together as a complete assembly? Also, I'm sure you didn't do any WOT pulls during break in. These are all things Mcleod says are a no no or "recommend" (flywheel and new clutch assembly balanced together as a complete assembly).

I have the rst i Belive. Did not bring the rpm’s over 3,500 during break in.
