Hey all, long time lurker! Question for you all if I may:
I wanted to check with you guys and see if any of you have experienced a similar rattle eminating from the engine compartment. I've done a forum search and have not found similar symptoms.
Occasionally I will hear a pretty loud rattle. The sound is metallic (kind of like a clank) and the rattle is cyclular and not dependent on the car moving, a particular gear, or rpm. Basically I can have the car in neutral and rev the engine and the volume and frequency of the noise will increase, relative to rpm. Unfortunately I can't predict these occurrences. And from what I can tell there is no consistency to these events (e.g outside temp, engine temp, etc). Given enough time, the sound does go away. I'd say the noise occurs 1/8 drives.
I've looked at a few videos and the rattle doesn't sound like piston or valve knocking/pinging. I'd love to take it into the dealer but I doubt they'll be able to replicate the sound. The next time it occurs I will be sure to record on my phone.
I know this is a shot in the dark without any audio, but any thoughts? I really appreciate your insights.
