I have this rattle when the engine is cold or barely warm. Once the engine is hot, it disappears. Many owners report this behavior is common but I have never heard of a solution.

Strangely mine only rattling when warm, never when cold… does yours rattle on both the driver and passenger side?

I have only noticed it on the driver's side.
When I had a Ford Perf. tune on the car with an oil catch can, I had the off accelerator rattle when hot and cold. I removed the oil separator and tune and now I only have the cold rattle.

I am about to hit 60K miles on my 2018 GT and it does this rattle to this day. It really quiets down once warm but is still there and I can only hear it if I was next to a wall (i.e. In a drive through) and were to put it in neutral and hit the gas pedal and on the rev down can hear a very slight rattle.

Did I you ever find a fix or does your car still make the noise?

Hi, you probably just bought a new to you used Mustang GT and are worried because it sounds like a claptrap sometimes.

It's probably totally normal sounds. Penzoil Ultra Platinum Plus on your next oil change will help with the BBQ tick. Fuel injected engines are loud and clicky, and the Coyote 5.0 is built to a price and they had to forgo some things like making it quieter and cooler sounding. Ford has officially said the "BBQ tick" and "2k rattle" are normal characteristics of the engine.

I ordered a custom built 2019 GT and it sounded like this, it was bought back for bad paint after 10 months and 7k miles.
The 2020 GT that replaced it sounded exactly the same, now I have personally experienced two brand new never touched by any customer but me Mustangs that sounded the same from the factory, it made me feel better about these weird sounds.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the reply! Sorta, I bought a 2020 GT a year ago. I didn’t notice the decel rattle at first, but then eventually I did and at first it didn’t really bother me but I hyperfixated on it and now I’m worried it’s damaging my engine every time it happens, lol. It drives totally fine though.

If you only have a stock exhaust, get a louder one to deal with the noise.

Something that might make you feel better, go stand next to an idling <insert any modern German luxury car> and listen to them clack and rattle too. Lots of those cars sound like diesels almost now. It's a feature of modern engines that have to meet so many requirements for emissions and efficiency.

I would advise you just enjoy your car and also realize only you really notice the rattle, people on the street are not cringing as you go by from the sounds.

I will also add, if you did not know the 5.0 Coyote has two different methods to add fuel - direct and port. It switches between these modes on a timeline/programming, which is why you sometimes do not hear the rattle.
