Am I the only one using Mobil 1 lol. I’ve been looking online for the pennzoil 5W-40 at least 5 quarts and can’t find it online on any local store here. Maybe I need to go to stores in a few days bec I know I need to change my engine oil soon. I added a little over 2k miles, but that’s a little over 6 months ago.

Best to not overthink it IMO. For a forced induction application you want a full synthetic for stability and longer life, a good quality additive package to deal with the extra blowby, and a higher weight for the extra shear strength needed for higher cylinder pressures. Basically any quality synthetic 5W-50 will fit the bill. It's like wiper blades, don't have to buy the most expensive, it's a consumable just change it more often.

I've never had an oil related failure in anything I've owned, including a blown SBF, twin turbo Audi V6, big turbo 4G63, etc. Just don't buy the cheapest shit you can find and don't go too long between changes.

Yeah thats the other advantage of superchargers since they dont tie into your oil system.

But yes the manufacturers buy tge same oil but they blend them differently and add additives that are specific to each brand. The viscosity rating is basically determined by measuring the time it takes oil to travel through a standard sized orifice at controlled temperatures. The ratings is a range so if it takes an average time of 5-10secs to go through X orfice the oil gets a Y rating.

Thats My understanding at least. Some brands will flow better than others. And what youre paying for is the additives

If you go up in weight, your oil pressure will go up as well. It will be more noticeable on
15-17 cars with stock oil pumps. With that in mind, you will want to give your car more time to come up to temp.
On my 2015, switching from 5-20 to 5-30, cold start oil pressure went up around 10psi.

On my 2018, it only went up a marginal amount at idle, but driving I definitely saw an increase.

I personally wouldn't go over 5-40, unless you're racing in the desert and running a stock thermostat. Running a lower temp thermostat should be a given with forced induction though.

That's a good point about oil pressure, main concern would be the filter, which is why the Ford Racing filter (M-6731-FL820) would be recommended with the higher weight oil. It's designed for high flow with a thinner filter media and a lot more surface area, therefore less restrictive. Cheapo filters would be more likely to fail, it happened to my work truck recently.

That said, a 5w20 and 5w50 are theoretically the same weight on cold start, but it's cheap insurance so why take the chance.

That’s pretty thick. Do you think that weight will mess with our vvt?
It does not mess with the TiVCT. I run Amsoil Signature Series 5w50, on my car that sees about 17-18psi, and E85.

I was told by a Mustang specialist shop that gen 2 car doesn’t need an aftermarket tstat. I’ll be shopping for the engine oil this weekend or next week.

Y’all got some favorite or better oil filter to choose from? Thanks for all the input and suggestions by the way y’all. I got all the help from stock to boosting this car along with the suspension setups and all are working well so far.

That's strange, because it made a difference on my car... It's also strange my buddy did it on his twin turbo gen 2...
