I've always been a penzoil ultra platinum fan. I own a gen 2 and stick with the recommended 5w20 and a ford filter.
Come spring time my car will see some major changes and this thread has me reconsidering what weight to use. It'll be a Gen 2 TT daily driven car.
I live in Florida/Georgia so the car will be pretty hot at times. I'm thinking 5w30, maybe 5w40.
Also, has anyone noticed any differences in blowby or catch can amount by running a different viscosity?

That thing literally costs 5 times more than a normal fl820. If you’re really racing the car, there are bigger issues than the oil filter, like oil starvation from it sloshing around in the pan.

xo-5w50-q1gt ford is going to the SN Plus ( aka Dexos 2) it has detonation resistance in high compression or boost applications ILSAC.... the 1 in the part number denotes it last time I checked my local dealer had that in the 5w30 in stock.....
the MC 5w50 shears down to 40 with a few heat cycles anyway......

I mean, I also have a baffled Moroso oil pan. After putting $15k into the engine I'm not about to argue over a $17 oil filter. I'll find somewhere else to be cheap.

I been reading this guys oil blog for years. He's and engineer by trade and provides an engineers approach to unbiased oil testing. He has tested almost every oil and provides new test on new products when they come out. It's a long read, but you can cut to the chase and read his oil test list starting here about 1/4 way down the blog. It's rated in PSI the higher the better. I use Amsoil signature series 5-30

The “WEAR PROTECTION RANKING LIST” itself, begins here:

@Roh92cp , with all due respect I don’t put any weight in his “findings”. He has some things blatantly wrong in there, such as the mechanism by which zddp works, it only tests one small area of the stribek curve, and there is zero weight given to things like oxidation resistance and cleaning ability. He also doesn’t share his testing method. I must admit I was excited and convinced the first couple of times I referenced the blog but have since realized it’s not a good test.

That’s great, OP is in a slightly different situation.

The man asked for a better oil filter to use. I'm assuming he's not looking for the bargain basement filter you're alluding to. No need to get all snarky.

Considering the stock filter is an FL500, a regular FL820 is already an upgrade at least in terms of capacity. The RS3 uses the FL500, so for street and light track use, even the FL820 likely isn’t necessary.
