I'm quite verse at reading logs. Reading them while at WOT is something else. Also, I don't care what the AF trim says in the gauge panel.
E90 won't really get you any performance boost unless you're tuned for it. Even then, there's only so much timing advance an engine can run. If you're at max/optimal timing on e85, and not knocking, then running e90 will do nothing but tax your injectors more than necessary. I'd ask your tuner before you play around with it.
With the price gap between 87 octane and 93 currently at about 70 cents a gallon here in Jersey. I figure I save about $500 dollars a year by adding e85 as apposed to just buying 93. I think the benefits of the higher octane in the e30 mix in a boosted 4 banger. outweighs the .5 mpg loss in fuel economy The 1/3 less mileage thing is greatly exaggerated.
You will blow the welds on your intake manifold!!!!!!!Always love when this topic comes up. I mix 87 octane with a few gallons of e85 in my ecoboost ranger. The guys on the ranger forum told me my engine should have blown by now!
I tend to agree...when mixing, losing 10-15% off your full tank range isn't THAT much, but when you are used to seeing ~350 on a tank, then you only see 300, you notice it. Especially if your daily work round-trip is 50 miles.
