I know they dont cover it off rip but if you tell them about the mods will they add some value to your premium? Also would not telling them cause them to deny any claims if you were in an accident and didnt tell them you had a supercharger installed? Planning on boosting soon but hadnt thought of this because obviously its a hefty investment and if the car were to god forbid be totalled i wouldnt want to be out almost $10k (i know insurance isnt gonna cover the full amount). If so do any of you have this type of “accessories” insurance and if you do what did it cost roughly and is it worth it or should i not worry about telling them anything. Just dont want to be denied a claim because of it thats my biggest thing.

Most insurance companies will let you add additional coverage for accessories, either a supplemental coverage endorsement or a stated amount coverage endorsement

Ask your insurance agent or check your policy closely if aftermarket improvements are covered.
It will depend on your insurance coverage and insurance carrier. No one on this forum can tell you.

What does your policy say your insurance covers?

Mine covers it. But I wouldn't trust anyone on a forum to tell me what is in my policy.
I have full coverage right now with state farm. But Im not sure if they cover anything aftermarket and i didnt want to call and raise suspicion asking if i added a s/c if theyd deny claims or if theyd cover it.. i guess i could just give them a call and speak in hypotheticals. What insurance do you have?

Gotcha, main concern was them denying a claim bc of the supercharger if it was in an accident without telling them about it or getting additional coverage

Haven't added that coverage on a car but my motorcycle has over 10K in additional parts. I think it costs me an additional 25 per year for them to cover my accessories.

Yeah, they won't cover it if you don't have it added to the policy prior to the event. Also, you have to have full coverage to add that type of endorsement. If you only have liability, you cant add coverages

You’ll need to read your policy, everyone’s will be different even if they’re the same carrier. Every state has different insurance regulations so the policies will all be worded differently. If you have online access, you should be able to download a copy of your policy. Some insurance companies mail them out each renewal as well. They’re fairly easy to read through, just make sure you read both what is covered and what is not covered. After reading your policy, if you still have questions I don’t think you’ll raise any flags if you call your agent and ask a few questions. Especially if you keep it to hypothetical questions.

There are policies that will cover it, you just have to do your own research and work with a good insurance agent to find what is right for you.

Honestly, if I were an insurance company and someone came to me asking to insure some expensive mods to a car... I would totally jack up those rates and think, this dude is gonna do some serious damage LOL

I have full coverage usaa insurance and was told they cover it. When my last mustang was totaled of course they didn't cover any of my aftermarket parts at all. I had receipts for the supercharger, rims, all kinds of stuff and they still offered the same amount as before saying things like the parts were more than a year old, didn't add value to the car, and all kinds of other BS.

Either way, even if they do say they cover it, expect your insurance company to come up with excuses and fight tooth and nail to not pay out. I personally wouldn't put money into aftermarket parts that you aren't ok with losing

As was stated a few times in this thread:
You NEED to get your policy docs and read all of the printed pages AND the fine print as to what is and is not covered. If you have an Auto Ins. policy, you should have access to those docs either online or by calling and just requesting a hard copy of your policy.

Most likely you have a standard auto insurance policy. You will be SOL of ANY aftermarket expenses IF your vehicle ever goes through a total loss claim OR if any of those parts are stolen from the vehicle.

The common Auto Insurance you get only covers the vehicle as it came from the manufacturer (by its VIN). Anything an owner has added may not be covered (again based on the Policy declaration pages).

If your policy does cover for aftermarket equipment, some polices have $$ limitations on those parts OR you can ask for additional coverage, which of course does raise the policy cost incrementally.

If you want the car insured for an Agreed Value based on vehicle worth and any mods added, then you must get a policy that is for Agreed Value where that value is in black and white on the Policy declaration pages. If the vehicle is totaled out, the Agreed Value is what would be paid, no more and no less. The Agreed Value is agreed upon by you and the Insurance Company. It’s not a verbal agreement, it’s not a “hand shake” between you and your best bro Insurance Guy, and it’s not assumed. The value has to be printed and shown on the Policy Declaration page stating the vehicle is insured for an Agreed Value of “$X”. It’s also NOT a “stated value” as some Insurance Co.’s like to say that it’s the same as an Agreed Value - it is NOT.

Check your Policy pages.

Now of course you can add whatever the heck you like to your ride to make it go super duper fast, bling it out, or ride on 25’s if that is your thing - but if your policy doesn’t cover for the excess spent on goodies, or it’s not an Agreed Value, your $$$ is just as good as flushed down the toilet if/when the car becomes a total loss statistic.

They will cover the car even if you mod it to death. As long as it remains street legal.
MOST insurance will not cover the added items unless you declare them and pay any additional fee's. If you do take pictures and keep receipts.

Best advice is to call your agent. If you bought over the internet read your policy and or call the company directly and ask.

Looking over my policy there is a space for listing modifications.
