I did the same on my black 2020 GT today. I opened the hole for the 6mm Xmas tree fastener to clearance for an 8mm Phillips head bolt that I had on hand. I bought an 8mm nylock nut at Home Depot and by taping the nut to my thumb, I was able to thread it onto the screw without dropping it into the trunk where it would rattle forever. I found the strap on Amazon, and chose red, to match my calipers.

Ok guys I need help - so I use a push pin but after a while it was’nt able to substain the constant use. So how are you getting a bolt and nut in place to hold the strap. I think this option would be more stronger and last a lot longer

I personally only used a bolt that’s large enough to tightly stay in the hole. It seemed impossible to get the nut on the other side of the panel. I would recommend using a rivnut as above.

I did exactly the same as you as my first solution and had the same experience

I ended up with a rivnut, which I can only recommend! It works like a charm and you don't have to risk dropping a nut inside the trunklit

Nice write up. I've been using the emergency strap which I reinforced a bit where it exits the liner pass thru, so far, so good.
Still working for me...

Nice!
I like how there's one on each side!
How long did you make the straps? And where did you source the trim washers?
Thanks :like:

Some info on the fitment in these links :

And I added the shopping list here :

I don't recall the exact length of webbing (maybe around 6" to 8" per strap ?) but it would be very easy to adjust that to suit :like:

Hope that helps ?

This is a project I’ve been meaning to do, hate having to touch the black plastic panel to pull the trunk down.

Many thanks to WD Pro for the Inspiration for this. I've never done it because I don't care for the long dangling strap.
I went a slightly different way by using leather cabinet pulls so I'm sure I spent a bit more but I'm very happy with the results.
Parts:
Leather drawer pulls
5mm red anodized trim ring
5mm x 15mm black anodized screw
5mm rivnut
Washer to fit rivnut.

I didn't have to drill the washer as I had some that fit perfectly. You do need the washers since the rvinut requires 1mm thickness and the trunk steel is like .78mm. Getting them in the trunk centered and fixed in place long enough to get the rivnut in was the biggest challenge. I used a stiff wire through the holes and put a dab of grease on the back to keep them in place. The rest is easy peezy.

I did this on my 2015 which I sold last year, and when I bought my 2022 I missed the strap I had made.
Small enough to let go when gravity takes over and closes my truck with a PP1 Spoiler with wicker bill no so rough. It’s simply a keychain where I made the bolt hole bigger.
works like a charm.

BTW I was a Blackhawk crew chief, and on preflight I did “pull” on the remove before flight gear. Seam natural to me as I’m closing the truck. lol

Here's mine. I fished the bolt from the inside. That rubber bumper in the photo is threaded into a big hole.

I may add a small "t" handle at the end of the strap to make the "yank" easier.
I used this method too. Worked fine until I added the Steeda Trunk pop kit. Now pulling the strap brings down the trunk but I still need to push it closed.
