Anyone install a dash cam on their car? Recommendations on what to get would be great. 👍🏻

I'm using a Cooau D20S. While it's a decent camera, if I had it to do again I'd get one with a dedicated rear camera. I've heard good things about Viofo's A229. It has Sony's newer Starvis in it.

https://viofo.com/dash-cam/326-viof...dual-dashcam-with-sony-starvis-2-sensors.html

Edited to add: Whatever you get, make sure you can get a live download onto your phone. If you can't retrieve the videos from it after an accident, it's pretty much useless to the police on the scene.

I have the FitcamX installed. Doesn't have a ton of features, but install is easy and the front cam has no exposed wires. It does what I want it to. I got it only because no one knows it's there.

I run the 4k A229 with back camera too, love it. I spent a lot of time looking at comparison videos between it, and the Blackvue. To me it is better in most situations.

A Dash cam is a necessity, spend the money its worth it.

I can recommend the Vantrue Nexus 4 Pro. 4k, 3 channels and very easy to use. I have it installed in my Bronco. Considered one for the Mach 1 but don’t drive enough on the street.

I have the FitcamX also. Hiding in plain sight and beautifully integrated in the Mustang interior. Features and usability are average. But I have no regrets.

For my wife’s Subaru, I just bought a VIOFO A139 with the new Starvis 2 sensor. I am waiting for warmer days before I freeze my butt in the garage trying to install it.

FitcamX is the only dash cam I would add. I don't like the ones you stick on the window or dash, I wish more companies would implement this design.

Are they easy to install? How are they powered?

I have a couple of the Garmin Minis in the mustang and the truck

i like the small size and that i can connect to it with my phone. Small and light enough it tucks out of view and is held securely by the double sided 3M adhesive tape. Last one was a suction cup mount so it would fall a bunch of times a year.

You can run a hardwire kit from your fuze box in the passenger footwell up the pillar and along the roof.

Of course you can plug into the ACC outlet. Though I tied into the mirror power, you can run the power cable across and down the windshield to the OBD connector, or to a piggy-backed fuse in the passenger footwell.

Whichever camera you use, if you have the Adaptive cruise control be sure to look up Dongar Technologies. They make a harness that plugs into the adaptive cruise camera behind the mirror and supplies a USB plug to connect the camera to. That way you don't have to string wires down to your 12V outlet or run a wire all the way to the fuse box. I am very happy with my Dongar adapter. I have one on my daily driver too..

That said, I have cameras that are no longer made but they are made by VAVA and they work great.

I have the Blackvue 4K front and rear cameras on mine, they are great. There's a app on your phone to download the videos and view the cameras. They have a external battery pack that can be purchased for overnight parking mode. Have had them for about 2 years and still very happy with them.

M1s don't have adaptive cruise control.

I have the BlackVue 4K with rear camera still sitting in the box for almost 2 years. 🤦🏻‍♂️ I think I would buy it again since I bought it once. Hopefully I’ll install it this year
