So anyone have a 3d printer willing to render up a intake tube we could maybe glue to the assembly? Im thinking a tube that tries to get air from the perforated leather back instead of a long tube going under the seat. I found my rigged up setup doesnt work because i think the fan isnt powerful enough to pull air that far and keep it cool. Coming right from the seat back makes more sense.

This was also ford logic to begin with. The back seat perforations are there for cool air to get to the cooler, but that doesnt work.
There needs to be an open duct in the seat back, tied directly to the Peltier air intake. You are correct that the fan can't deal with the head loss in a long tube; the question is how long is too long? One guy on the Ford Trucks forum reported success with about 12 inches of intake tube. Segregation of the intake/output air is the key issue.

I think the problem is you cant get air from the back of the seat. The F150 seats zip up the sides int he back so there is some play with getting a tubing outlet anywhere along there. The mustang seems to be a 1 piece and you would have to cut the seat back to get a vent; which obviously no one is going to do.

I don't think a long tube would hurt things too bad, the air is naturally going to fill the tube it just wont be as high a volume as a shorter tube. Not ideal but better than cutting the seat.

And I don't see Ford fixing this no matter how many people have the issue unless there is a fire or something to prompt the recall. I guess when the first 2016 is shipped in the next 2-3 months we will see if they kept the same parts/design. That will say a lot.

After seeing this thread and just getting my car a couple of weeks ago. I noticed the same thing with my seats. Seat bottoms are cool and the backs are on the warm side. I even turned on the passenger seat and noticed the same thing.
I have this same issue and am waiting for a TSB to come out. Shouldn't have to rig something up to make this function properly.
Have you addressed this with your dealers yet, guys? What have they said?

My build was 1/15. When cool seats are activated I initially get minimal cooling then they start to get very hot. I have not yet taken this in to the dealership to have them checked.
You should bring your vehicle in and get it checked out, bstreet5.0. Then, PM me with your VIN, dealer, mileage, full name, and best daytime number so I can escalate this for you as well.

Deysha, I haven't been. I should. But everyone who has gone has gotten the "that's the design", the "the backs aren't supposed to cool" and the "we can't replicate the problem" run arounds.

I've actually had really good support for my visits. I got blown of a little bit for the first one, but that is mostly because I accepted the answer. Once I returned for the same issue and have been really pushing that it is not right they have been great. Ford documentation states that the backs are supposed to cool (I have a tech sheet, but I forgot it at work) so if the service advisor says otherwise, you may want to push it higher.

The problem for me now is the weather cooperating at the same time I can get to the dealership to have it checked out. The last time I went, I could only make it first thing in the morning, so no heat soak. Since then it has been cool and rainy. I've got the go ahead to take it in without an appointment at any point that I can replicate it and have a tech look at it.

I've only had luck consistently replicating it on a 90+ degree sunny day. On a cloudy or cooler day, it doesn't seem to heat soak enough to replicate consistently and is highly dependent on the environment (meaning a covered garage is probably going to make it hard to replicate).

My recommendation would be to watch the weather and insist on both being with the tech during testing and making sure it is in an environment that you know you can replicate the issue. If you can replicate it, then you should be able to help them replicate it. Hopefully your dealership is willing to go to this level.

I will get very upset if my dealer, when my car will arrive, said that my 700-eur-non-working-cilmated-seats are only an inconvenience and no one cares about fixing that!
Save yourself the inconvenience of the delay... get angry now.

That isn't true. I went after contacting Ford Customer Service. The dealer checked the problem, confirmed the backs were working but not enough to actually feel any cool. They also brought a new car off the lot and confirmed it was exactly the same problem. This was exactly what the regional customer service manager needed to report the issue.

I think there's a good possibility of a TSB. Look at the squealing front brakes issue on the GTs (w/o PP) and the Ecoboost (w/PP). That too was an "inconvenience", yet Ford put a TSB and new parts out to fix that issue because customers were making a big stink over it.

Ford better fix it! Otherwise, they owe us a refund for a feature that doesn't work. I think we should all complain to our dealer, get a case # from Ford Service, and be diligent about not accepting this as "normal." That's what'll make a TSB happen.

I also don't agree that it's just an inconvenience. Seat coolers by definition should not raise the temperature of the seat. Imagine the fuss if everyone's A/C blew hot air.

I just noticed this today. I wasn't sure if the seatbacks were supposed to cool or not since I just got my car on Friday, but it seemed like they should. The bottoms definitely were cooling but I felt nothing on the seatback.

I guess it is time to see my dealer to lodge the complaint.

Otherwise is Class Action time!!!

It could be helpful to know if there is a cutoff date for ones that work or not I suppose. Keep an eye on it. I remember mine working when I first bought it in November then I didn't use it again until Spring and it hasn't worked since.
Thought mine was broken when the car arrived last Thanksgiving... seat back doesn't work at all, seat bottom not enen close to my daughter's 2013 Optima, which can actually freeze me out.

With the quality of the cooling units they put in the seats, i think they were just an after thought "hey, why dont we put cooled seats in?". Im not sure how other cars do their cooled seats. They may tap right into the main AC system. These seats are stand-alone systems.
