That's interesting as I brought up what I thought I saw in an earlier post...

The response from AC to the above was "Our bases are single-piece, non welded CNC machined aluminum."

Were they two piece from the beginning then?
The image shown is our first pre-production part. Production mounts will be two-piece welded.

Ok I have to ask this question too, are the OEM CF Brackets 1 piece or two? I am going to assume its one, and if it is 1 piece then I would think this would be a much stronger bracket then a 2 piece weld.

I like to disassemble things.
The upright is likely loaded in compression at speed but I could see the front of the base being in tension as the wing wants to be drawn back due to the direction of airflow. With sufficient weldment I don't see an issue with a two piece upright - neither did Multimatic and their wing assembly (the one Ford modeled for the CFTP car) which uses a welded upright too. So it is a simple matter of cost as it'd be a big chunk of material needed (times two) and quite a bit of machine time to whittle an upright from a single piece of material. Doing the base and upright separately and then fusing them together is just the smart way to do this. You can keep costs down and transfer that on to the consumer. AC is doing this the right way.

I would say the right way would be to not alter the weld. I would like to see closeups of the mounts under good lighting. It seems to me from the photos that the weld was ground down before powdercoat. The car does 180. I'd like that union to be as strong as possible, because those forces are significant. I doubt a structural or aeronautical engineer has looked at this mount. I think in the case of multimatic, it probably was analyzed and that is one of the reasons you see the big ass weld between the mount and the ladder.

Is it possible the ladder slides up from beneath the base? Would like to see the inside of the base looking up at the joint. Structural rigidity could be made by having a T section on the bottom of the ladder.

I know someone who will be looking at all this as soon as he gets his hands on one.

I am happy to see that this wing if finally reaching people, and that it was a well executed design. I really don't think anyone is going to be disappointed. Personally, I have had good experiences with AC and I am not surprised it came out this good. Enjoy everyone!

@Anderson
@LETHAL
You stink. Yeah, that's right. You stink.
No, that wasn't what I was thinking. What's your problem?

And BTW, Lethal is responsible for fixing that mess. Great bunch of peeps.

Edit:
I'll forgive your remarks. .

Edit:
A Lethal guy reached out to me for a filter a bit ago. I helped him out. I have no issue with the folks at lethal.

I mean i'm not losing sleep over it or anything. I ordered in October and was told delivery dates. That delivery date is months over due. Where's the communication? Where's my wing? That's all.

I understand your frustration. Lets just say there are a lot of people in the same boat.

Be patient, it will come soon enough.

I’ve come to understand that suspense dates in auto fabrication are wishful thinking no matter what the part is. Especially for custom CF pieces.
