Also, I wouldn't buy ANY aftermarket cats unless they are GESI. Those seem like the only ones worth the price that come with longevity.

I wouldn't do cats boosted
or NA. I legit gained 1.5 mpg by neutering the cats. Gained around 25hp, and the stink isn't that bad. In fact, hardly noticeable say compared to my 71 440 Roadrunner.

You lucky you live in a state that doesn't enforce them. I would love to get rid of cats I don't like them on my car or the pet. That sweet hydrocarbon smell is awesome with no cats but I live in California im screwed.

Has anyone pulled their exhaust and done an inspection of the pipes to see if there’s an indication of the cats loosening up and starting to fail? When mine failed, I could hear the immediate change in the exhaust note. Pulling the exhaust confirmed what I had suspected. The cat material was being sucked in and blown out during acceleration and deceleration.

Adding Vibrant race mufflers in place of the cats definitely increased the sound of the exhaust note too.

Im gonna be that guy and say keep the cats. I got long tubes with GESI cats after i boosted mine. There are A LOT of people running GESIs on 1000+ hp boosted cars. They are supposed to handle something like 750hp each side so maybe once you hit 1500hp you can remove em haha.

There's risk in everything we do, but if there's guys running them on 1000+ cars I would like to believe my 700whp will be just fine.

I'm also gonna be that guy and say every mustang I've heard without cats sounded like absolute shit. Its not even a loudness thing, it just sounds so sloppy and unrefined.

Honestly with as loud as my car is now there is a chance the cats are hollow, I’ll just have to see.

I’ve got cats on my boosted setup, should I remove them for motor longevity or not a big deal? My county doesn’t require emissions for inspections
So why have them, let it eat..better in long run I don't have then I'm in fla

I’m just asking should I leave it be or remove them, just trying to minimize anything that could cause potential damage

Remove the mid or catted portion of the exhaust and try and do a thorough inspection of the cats. Look from both ends of the pipe and see if they’re beginning to melt or loosen up. If they are, replace them with straight pipe or race mufflers.

@Curley they’re Ultimate Headers cats.
Did you contact Ultimate after seeing the metallic spun cat was all wadded up?

That should be covered under their warranty for quality/craftsmanship. I’d suspect that the spun metallic was either not the proper size or was not properly secured in the “barrel” of the pipe. I only surmise this because in your image, the other side was not wadded up at all and still looks relatively intact as it should be….
