Ordered a bunch of stuff from Ford this morning. Stock gen3 short block, head, exhaust, oil pan, valve cover, and timing cover gaskets. New timing chains and tensioners and a couple of other random things. So far at $2’300 ish. Still have to order the crank support, balancer, stage2 pulley, crank stud, and head studs. And I still have to pay to get the heads fixed, so I figure I’ll be at least another $2’500. Not a cheap fix by any means, but it is what it is.
Would it have made sense to order a factory complete long block? ~$4300-4700 based on my personal and recent research.

Perhaps, but I would still be on the hook for the crank support, balancer etc. plus I like the idea of running head studs and I’ll probably have some better springs and retainers installed

Ha. Yes, slightly different than a Procharged GT. I am trying to learn from your unfortunate happenings, have the parts on the way.

A wise decision. Wish I would have done it when I had the chance, but I feel confident that the new setup will last a while. I’m content with the power the car was making on the 4.25 pulley and I feel the factory short block can safely handle that power level all day

Yaa.. Factory service long block FTW risk/time/budget wise. Then swap pistons, pins, rods, springs, tensioners, chains. Let it eat.
Dunno, is it cheaper buying loaded heads separate and a short block?
Bribe local dealer parts warehouse guys w bad ass pastry breakfast so they scan return code if you need to order Levitown or WBL etc. Cheap shipping and core return.

I like factory service long block thats already been cold spun tested at ford, but dunno.

Regarding busted crank snout:
When snout flexes under load, it sure looks like the inside square edge of the TG cracks the case hardening on the crank. It would be interesting if the inside bore of the TG could be ground convex to accommodate the crank snout loaded alignment and flex. Having two forged and high hardness metal objects in contact with high loads and vibration means the TG is actually hammering on the edge. Look at his break line. Just like mine and many others.
I bet the TG wont slide off cause the crank is forged out at the crack up on the chamfer...

Face palm. There's a massive difference in a stock short block and a built short block, same for the capability. You get what you pay for.
I said build you a new shortblock not a built shortblock. Meaning all factory parts as in the exact same engine. Come on now pay attention

🙄 It's priced accordingly. Nobody loses money or gifts things away, pal.

I wonder if the predator crank has a stronger snout?

The other thing I wonder about is if you used a cogged belt would that help from less loading?
In the early days of centrifugal superchargers, before we realized the need for BOVs, cogged belts were responsible for quite a few broken crankshafts.

Pay attention. I never said hey everyone Ford is giving away coyotes. I said that $1900 is dirt cheap compared to having one built. And it is

Dude, you pay attention. You're comparing an assembly line, mass production to a shop. Knock off the crap lol

you started all this. My statement never changed. It is still cheaper than having one built just like I said. I not sure what part of that bothers you but it was true when I said it and it is still true

If it was priced accordingly why was the gen2 so much more expensive?
My statement is still true as well. You spend $1900 on a factory shortblock, you're getting what you paid for. It's not like it's worth $3000. It's worth $1900. :like:
