Hi
So I have the borla Stype catback with the x pipe and found it a little too loud for daily driving.
i decided to add the borla 60661 resonator and not too happy with the results.
car sound quieter than stock and it sounds wayyyy too muffled.

I have literally only had it on for 20 miles so I don’t know if I need to wait for it to get louder from using it more ?. Or I just sell it and get an H pipe made up with two bottle resonators ?.

thanks

Give it some time. Mine changed to a point where I feel cold start is a bit loud. Cruising and wot are good. I guess it depends some if you have headers with ffe, which I do.

It a packed resonator. It will burn in over time and get a bit louder. Not much but some... Mine was shockingly quiet at first but it mellowed out quite a bit after a few weeks, and I loved it. Of course mine was stupid loud with the headers, so the resonator made it tolerable for me.

And, for what it's worth, the Borla resonator is an h pipe with internal resonation. So doing an external with resonators might not change much.

Thanks for replying.
Yeh mine is all stock and maybe I should give it a chance to get a little louder

In that case, yes it will be VERY quiet for a while at least. I did the Touring cat back on my F150 truck (basically the same thing resonator wise) and I was shocked at first how quiet it was. BUT I drove 200 plus miles a day and talked on the phone a LOT so I didn't want it too loud. It definitely burned in after a couple thousand miles. And was perfect. It was nice and quite at cruise and idle, almost stock. BUT you give it the beans and it woke up very nicely..

it’s probably the dramatic change from the x pipe that has had me thinking

Yes, I agree. X Pipe is quite agressive at times.. I went from a full S type with X pipe to headers, and resonated S type and it was STILL louder. I still have my X pipe out in my storage building. Not a fan of X pipes, BUT I have the Switch fire now on my Mach 1 and everything else stock and it is really nice. Cross between X pipe and H pipe...

How many miles are on the S-Type mufflers ?
As mentioned the Borla mid resonator has an internal crossover. Any further sound changes will only come from the fiber packing breaking down.
I’d say give it several thousand miles before giving up on the mid resonator. Wind out the motor to help break in the packing quicker.

Yeh
Not many Miles. I’d say the whole system has maybe 400 miles and the resonator about 20-30miles so far.

Go hammer on it and burn off the oils and break in the packing.
I think you’ll like it in due time.

Lol
Truth is there is definitely slightly more torque in higher gears than the x pipe that I noticed straight away. Is that the back pressure causing better torque?.
