Ceratec it yolo mine was horrible before that but it was fixed.
Same here. Developed the tick around 25k miles between 1-2k RPM and under load. Put in 1/4 bottle of Ceratec with each change and haven't looked back. Not so much as a peep from the engine now.

Sounds exactly like mine. Didn't start until the engine was 180 or so degrees. Inconsistent tapping like a typewriter. Worse on hot days. Mine was driver side. Sound was worse from under the car. Started right after an oil change. Ford replaced with a new short block. I too now run Ceratech.
I've never had to use ceratec before. is this a one time thing? I dont know much about it. Also I'm worried that if something does happen to blow the engine up and they do an analysis and it shows additives theyll deny me a new block. This just sucks I was having a great time until this tick presented itself.

There's one YouTuber who had ceratec for 3k miles or maybe more. Replaced with oil without ceratec and has no tick anymore. But he has mos2 additive in new oil.

I had it in my car for just like 200 miles and tick returned immediately with the oil without ceratec. But in my case ceratec did not fix the tick completely even while in the engine. I could hang rpms at around 1700 while in neutraland clearly hear it.

I will be using Ceratec every oil change. Edit - I contacted Ceratec and was advised you could use it every oil change. I highly doubt Ford service will do an oil analysis. Hell I got a new short block with a GT350 manifold, LU47 injectors, JLT CAI and Lund tune. That said it boils down to the individual dealer. The up side of the new short block for me was getting MMR billet OPG and crank spline installed on the motor while it was on the stand.

I've had the tick since 20k. Like most, it happened after an oil change using 5w-20 Mobil 1 EP and the FL-500s filter. It would be worse a few days after and then taper off over the course of about 1000 miles. At 25k, the tick didn't taper off at all. Last week, I changed at 30k using 5w-20 Pennzoil Ultra Platinum and the FL500s filter and the tick is 95% gone. I'll report if something changes but it seems like I will stick with PUP from now on.
My first change was with the same oil, PUP 5W-20 but that's when I got the tick. After 7,000 miles I did another PUP change using ceratec to a total of 10 quarts. I filled the ceratec bottle up with oil from one of the quarts to get it exact.

I have about 2K on the ceratec now and so far it's been good.

I also saw an annoying youtube where the dude fixed his tick with Shell Rotella T6 5w-40. This is a high zinc oil made for diesel engines, but it is also acceptable for use in gasoline engines. I don't know if it would be a good choice for you northerners.

My current plan of attack is to let ford replace the engine. I doubt that'll happen. I know alot of people have the tick and I hope nobody has that rod knock that im also hearing. its pronounced and you can hear it 20 feet away from the car. If that doesn't work out I guess ill be all in on the ceratec.

Hey everyone, i really appreciate the advice and insight, I'm coming from the ecoboost page and this is my first V8. Needless to say i'm pretty damn frustrated lol.

Check issues/repairs section. Ford issued a statement that typewriter tick is normal. I doubt they will approve any engine replacement after that.

If its the same video I saw, then there was a follow up video where the tick came back to that guy.

He later poured in two bottles of ceratec which fixed the tick again, but the tick came back 1000 miles later as well.

Was he really annoying? If so, that was probably the same video.

Check your oil for metal shavings. That's what got me a new short block.

Do not use a zinc additive in your new car, it immediately clogs the catalytic converters..
