I developed a ticking sound recently, thought about the BBQ Tick. I have a Roush cut & clamp X pipe. Got under the car while running and noticed the mid-pipe clamps each had these 2 spring steel fingers on them that were vibrating against the clamp itself creating a ticking sound. Anybody have any idea what is the purpose of these 2 fingers. See attachment.

One end of this spring goes into a protrusion in tne pipe and sort of defines the position at which you would clamp the pipe.

I doubt this would be the source of that bbq tick though.

Thanks for explaining the purpose. I can however hear and feel the spring vibrating against the clamp. The ticking sound is tinny and louder under acceleration I think I may remove the fingers as they serve no purpose with the Roush midpipe.

An exhaust leak at the intersecting pipes or loose piping clamps can also create a “ticking” noise at idle or even louder when cruising. The same is true if a header gasket is breached.
