Yep, but more pronounced since they're up top instead of buried in the cylinder block. And the sound is the cam follower smacking the cam because it's out of control.True ... but if they don't work correctly they can cause valve train ticking just like old fashioned "hydraulic lifters".
Had a last adjuster go bad on my '79 which quickly wiped out the cam and it made a hell of a racket, especially toward the end. Like no lifter noise I've ever heard....
