Battery Tender??

Haven’t bought a battery charger/maintainer in a while. Need new/extra ones with all the cars sitting around. Nothing has lithium at the moment, so gonna go with a simple plug and forget Battery Tender; they have worked well for me in the past.

My question is on amperage. They have a 1.25 and a 5 amp charger. (They have others, 3 and 4, but they’re 6v selectable, and i just don’t see a need/reason for that).

Is there any reason not to just get the 5 amp? 1.25 will maintain, but the 5 would charge well if ever needed. Seems like that would be the best overall. Yeah?

When I had my 16 and then 17 Shelby I always used Battery Tender they worked well for me in cold winter. And I had the 5 amp.

I have a CTEK 7.5A that actually gets used more to maintain batteries than it does to charge them - it’s nice to have the capacity if it’s needed though

I went with 5A, as my car sits outside all winter on the tender. Plus, if needed for another vehicle to just get the battery back to peak, I won't have to wait so long with a 5A.

I have a standard battery charger that has 2 amp, 5 amp and 50 amp settings. Since I have owned my car (4 years and into my fifth winter) I have used it on a timer and set it on the 2 amp setting for one hour a day. My car has a build date of July 2016, which makes my battery nearly 5 1/2 years old.

I have both. As some have pointed out, the 5A can double as a charger. If all you want is a maintainer, the 1.25 does a fine job. You don't need anything more. If they both cost the same, get the 5A

This is the one that was recommended on the forum. It was very easy to set up and I love that I could hardwire it with the plug connector option

I have a 1.5A. Factory batteries these days suck. My R drains down after a couple weeks and won't start. Same with my wife's Corvette. I put my tender on and in 12hrs it's fully charged and in maintenance mode. I like the slow trickle chargers for the battery's long term health as opposed to something rapid. Been using it for 3 years

I use a 4amp, comes with a ring terminal adapter so the adapter is mounted to the battery and sitsright below the passenger wiper hidden from view unless you look down under lip of hood.

Just remove cover and connect if it's going to sit a while
